1. The Ambition of Oda Nobuna
As high school student Yoshiharu Sagara awakes, he finds himself caught up in a raging battle during the Sengoku period. Hideyoshi Toyotomi saves him from death, but at the cost of his own life. As he dies, the warrior pleads for Yoshiharu to succeed him as a feudal lord. Yoshiharu vowed not to diverge the timeline any further after the course of history had been altered. Despite this, Yoshiharu finds out that he has been transported to a parallel reality where most of Japan’s historical warlords have become cute girls!
In order to rectify the situation and find a path home, Yoshiharu agrees to be one of Nobuna’s retainers and help her take over Japan. In the course of Nobuna’s campaign, Yoshiharu discovers that he can predict future events from what he has learned from playing the video game “Nobunaga’s Ambition.”. By using this invaluable gift, Yoshiharu hopes to help the beautiful generals of the Oda clan fulfill their dream and win the hearts of all women.
2. Violet Evergarden
A four-year conflict ended on the continent of Telesis; fractured in two, the continent slowly began to flourish once more after the Great War. In the midst of the bloodshed was Violet Evergarden. She was raised from infancy for the purpose of decimating enemy lines. Having been hospitalized and maimed in a bloody skirmish during the final war, her only communication was a string of words from her closest friend, but without fully understanding what the words meant.
Following a falling out with her new intended guardians, Violet begins a new career at CH Postal Services. In this environment, she witnesses by pure chance the work of an “Auto Memory Doll,” an automated device that translates thoughts and feelings into words. Emboldened by the notion, Violet enters the trade of becoming an Auto Memory Doll, an adventure she hopes will lead to self-discovery and a better understanding of herself.
3. Sengoku Basara: Samurai Kings
Sengoku Basara is a story of high politics, barbed wit and betrayal. It takes place during Japan’s Sengoku period as rival warlords battle for control of the country -all while trying not to get killed by one another!
Several powerful warlords fought to unify Japan under a central government during the Sengoku period. With his strength and military resources, Nobunaga Oda proved to be the most powerful of these rulers.
One of the main clans opposing Nobunaga was led by Shingen Takeda and his trusted warrior, Yukimura Sanada. General Masamune Date and his army stopped an attack led by Sanada against General Kenshin Uesugi in the middle of the night. The two fought to a draw, sparking a fierce rivalry based on their newfound admiration.
With his influence now spread across the country, Nobunaga maintains his hold on Sengoku Basara. In order to stop Nobunaga’s rise to power and save feudal Japan, Date and Sanada have to put their differences aside. The fighting among these warriors and leaders and the Nobunaga armies unleashes the power of magical, militant, and political forces.

4. Valvrave the Liberator
People have expanded successfully into space and started living in independent colonies throughout the galaxy in the 71st year of the True Era. Two major nuclear forces hold the Earth in their grip: the Dorssia Military Pact Federation (Dorssia) and the Atlantic Rim United States (ARUS). Both powers wage war on Earth as well as far into outer space. Japan and the Islands of the Oceanian Republic (JIOR), a third faction residing peacefully and prospering economically in this era of war, are maintaining neutrality with their armed neighbours.
Kakumeiki Valvrave begins in a JIOR colony in outer space, where 17-year-old Haruto Tokishima’s peaceful life is turned upside down when the Dorssian Army breaches the colony. It is their goal to seize the Valvraves: powerful but rumored mechanized weapons hidden deep inside Sakimori Academy, Haruto’s school. As a result of the Chaos, Haruto stumbles across one of the Valvraves that was targeted. Haruto, whose friends’ lives are in danger, enters the mecha and seals a contract to exchange his humanity for its power. The Valvrave, with the help of the enigmatic Dorssian agent L-elf, embark on a revolution to free the world from the evil Dorssians.

5. Break Blade
A war between the Kingdom of Krisna and the nation of Athens is brewing on the continent of Cruzon. Those living in this land are able to use quartz however they like. The only exception is Rygart Arrow. Un-sorcerers are incapable of using quartz. Yet, this characteristic will help him pilot an ancient Golem, one that can stand up against an invading army of Athens.
The human race was once able to teleport to Mars through a hypergate discovered on the Moon. The settlers discovered an advanced technology that was far superior to that of their home planet, which they called “Aldnoah.” This discovery led to the rise of the Vers Empire of Mars and a declaration of war against the Terrans, those who remained on Earth. During a battle on the Moon – later dubbed “Heaven’s Fall” – the hypergate exploded, destroying the Moon and leading the two factions to establish an unstable ceasefire.
They were, however, in a fragile state of peace. Approximately fifteen years later, high school student Inaho Kaizuka witnesses the plot for the slaying of Asseylum Vers Allusia, Princess Asseylum of the Vers Empire, who hoped to repair links between the Empire and its homeland. As a result, there is a new war between the Martians and the Terrans. Due to this insurmountable obstacle, Inaho and his friends must now wage war against the Vers Empire for the sake of settling the war once and for all.
7. Valkyria Chronicles
Ryutaro Nonaka and Shuntaro Tanaka created Valkyria Chronicles, a series of military-themed tactical role-playing video games developed by Sega. Originally released in 2008 for the PlayStation 3, Valkyria Chronicles followed in 2009 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Switch. A sequel to Valkyria Chronicles has been released for the PlayStation Portable, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Microsoft Windows. Anime and manga versions of the series have also been released.
In its quest for resources in the west, the Europan Imperial Alliance invades Gallia, which has vast Ragnite deposits. Using their superiority in technology, their military might, and their strategic advantage, they wipe out the opposition and sweep through the sleepy principality with ease.
Seeing Imperial forces advancing on his quiet hometown, Welkin Gunther and his younger sister Isara band together with the local militia chief and push back the occupation forces. With the remnants of the militia, they form a unit in the Gallian capital and help repel the Imperial presence.
Despite their lack of experience in war, Squad Seven is called upon to defend their country from invasion. The team discovers ancient secrets as the battle rages through the streets of Gallia, bringing them closer than they had ever expected.
8. Angolmois: Record of Mongol Invasion
Written and illustrated by Nanahiko Takagi, this Japanese manga series presents historical events from Japan’s past. On July 11, 2018, NAZ premiered an anime adaptation.
In the 13th century Mongolia, the Empire was about to erupt. Their next target is Tsushima Island, so Japan must prepare for their attack.
We have many interesting characters in this show due to the plot of defending the island. No overpowered Kiritos, just normal people. In fact, most of them are former prisoners who don’t particularly care for Japan. It seems that this realistic approach works best. There are no angels or gods in wars or among humans.
From the other side of the sea comes the scary Great King. Along with the beginning of the Samura era, a new interpretation of the big event of medieval Japan is presented in this work.
Kentaro Miura‘s long-running series of seinen manga published in the biweekly magazine Young Animal in 1989 was adapted as Kenpuu Denki Berserk by the studio in 1989. It should be noted that the anime’s story is fairly faithful to the source material. However, some more graphic violence was excluded, along with characters and other content that could not be covered in the length of the anime. The show’s creator approved the changes.
Guts, a mercenary born from the corpse of his mother, clings to the battlefield as his only means of survival. Every day, he puts his life on the line to make enough money to live.
The story begins with Guts being recruited by the charismatic mercenary leader Griffith, nicknamed the “White Hawk.” As Guts quickly ascended the ranks in order to become the head of the offensive faction, Guts propelled Griffith’s force to victory. As Guts’ quest for recognition intensifies, he slowly learns that the world is not as simple as he thought.
In Kenpuu Denki Berserk, the medieval era is brought to life through one man’s struggle to discover his own path while supporting another’s lust for power and the unimaginable tragedy that begins to turn the wheels of destiny.

10. Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann
Kamina and Simon grew up in an underground village protected from the fabled surface by a wall made of stone. Simon is a timid little boy with no real ambitions. Kamina is a free-spirited loose cannon, pushing himself to the limit. Simon stumbles upon a mysterious object while excavating the Earth one day, which turns out to be a key to an ancient artifact of war, which they call Lagann. Together with Yoko Littner, a hot-blooded redhead with a huge gun who roams the world above, Simon and Kamina are able to defend themselves from a surprise attack from the surface using their new weapon.
After the battle, the sky is now apparent, prompting Simon and Kamina to set out with Yoko to explore the surface wastelands. They soon face the “Beastmen,” humanoid creatures riding powerful robots called “Gunmen.” Despite challenges and setbacks, the trio fights alongside other survivors to reclaim Earths surface while slowly unveiling a galaxy-wide mystery.
Its Military Academy trains elites to bring victory to the Barsburg Empire. Academy students are free to use an ability called Zaiphon to fight, but the types of Zaiphon they can use depends on their nature as soldiers.
Among the most promising soldiers the academy has produced is Teito Klein. He is ridiculed by everyone since he is a sklave (German for slave) with no memory of his past but is befriended by a fellow student named Mikage. Teito uncovers a dark secret from his past while preparing for the final exam. A failed attempt at assassinating Ayanami, a high-ranking official who violently killed his father, results in Teito being locked up awaiting punishment.
Mikage helps Teito escape because he does not want anything bad for him. Eventually, Teito ends up in the district church and is adopted by the bishops. Here, he tries to escape Ayanami’s grasp so that he can discover his memories and learn why he is the one who can change the world.
12. The Saga of Tanya the Evil (youjo Senki)
In her seemingly innocent appearance, Tanya Degurechaff harbors the soul of a young man who challenged Being X in a battle of wits-resulting in his reincarnation as a little girl into a world of magical warfare. The defiant Tanya resolves to conquer the military ranks of her country even as it plunges into a world war, with only Being X standing between her and the peace she once knew. The mighty Empire gains the unintended benefit of becoming one of mankind’s most powerful nations thanks to her perceptive actions and combat initiative.
13. The Pilot’s Love Song
It was written by Japanese author Koroku Inumura. Taking place in the same fictional universe as his earlier novel, Toaru Hikuushi keine E Tsuioku (The Princess and the Pilot), it follows the adventures of a young princess. Shogakukan, under its Gagaga Bunko label, published five volumes in 2009 through 2011. TMS Entertainment produced an anime adaptation that began airing in Japan on January 6, 2014 and ended on March 31, 2014.
During a revolution, a former prince lost everything, and he became a symbol for the revolution when he fell in love with a girl. In order to reach the ends of the heavens, the orphaned prince, now called Kalel, embarks on a one-way journey. Upon boarding the levitating island of Isla, he meets the girl Claire. He meets several people that teach him about friendship and love while he is filled with hatred and revenge.
14. Seraph of the End
A manga of the same title written by Takaya Kagami is the basis for Owari no Seraph. The anime Kagami himself wrote could not be found in the source material as it was based on a story that had yet to be revealed.
An unknown virus kills everyone over 13 years old, and mankind becomes enslaved by previously hidden vampires who emerge with the promise of protecting survivors in exchange for donations of their blood.
Young Yuuichirou and Mikaela Hyakuya are two survivors of a Japanese orphanage, along with other children they consider their family. After being treated as livestock under the vampires’ brutal rule, Mikaela devises a revolting escape plan that fails. Only Yuuichirou was able to survive, and he was discovered by the Moon Demon Company, a company dedicated to the extermination of vampires in Japan.
Yuuichirou, now a member of the Japanese Demon Army, is determined to exact revenge on the creatures who murdered his family, but how far will he go? This supernatural shounen anime follows a young man as he searches for redemption, all the while trying to maintain friendships and loyalty despite seemingly impossible odds.

15. KanColle: Kantai Collection
As a result of the hostile “Abyssal Fleet” constantly attacking the seas, a specialized naval base is set up to counter them. As opposed to standard naval weapons, however, the base is armed with “Kanmusu” – girls who possess the spirits of Japanese warships and are able to harness these powerful spirits with weaponized gear. Despite Fubuki’s young age and inexperience, she is assigned to the famous Third Torpedo Squadron as a new recruit; unfortunately for her, she is then thrust into combat. The rookie warship is rescued from near annihilation and vows to become as strong as the ship that saved her.
16. Joker Game
During the lead up to World War II, intelligence about the social and economic conditions of other countries had become an invaluable resource. To obtain this weapon, Japan has developed an organization called the “D Agency”.
Agents who report on the developments associated with the war have been assigned to infiltrate some of the world’s most powerful countries under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Yuuki. These men have studied numerous fields such as languages and communications in order to endure these extreme conditions. However, they are most highly trained in manipulating people to gain the information necessary to dominate their nation.
Chinese history’s Warring States period saw many kingdoms rise and fall during this period of raging dragons that razed the land for 500 years, paving the way for the next generation of kings and generals to rise to power. A cycle of endless warfare led to the rise of seven powerful states.
As a war-orphaned slave in the kingdom of Qin, Li Xin trains hard with his best friend, Piao, who shares the same dream of becoming one day a Great General of the Heavens. After Piao is hired by a retainer of the King to work in the palace, the two are forced to part ways.
After a violent coup d’état, Piao returns to Xin, half-dead, with a mission that will lead him to Zheng Ying, the young King of China, who bears some striking similarities to Piao. Kingdom follows Xin as he embarks on his first journey into China’s bloody history. During his long search for the glory of becoming a Great General of China’s Seven Warring States, he must carve his own path to glory.
18. Full Metal Panic
Full Metal Panic! The series adapts the first three novels of Shoji Gatoh’s similar light novel series under the same title, as well as the first three novels of Full Metal Panic! ‘s spin-off series.
Mithril, a private military organization, equipped with advanced weapons and specialized personnel, fights terrorism worldwide and threats to peace on Earth. In this organization, individuals called “Whispered” have intuitive skills and the capability to create powerful machines and devices.
Mithril has assigned Sousuke Sagara, a 17-year-old sergeant, to protect Whispered candidate Kaname Chidori. His mission is to join her high school class and be as close to her as possible so that she doesn’t fall into enemy hands – that is, if he can blend in with their peers without revealing his true identity.
To protect Kaname, Sousuke must adjust to a normal school life despite having been raised on a battlefield and knowing little about the life of a high school student. In any case, enemy forces have already begun moving to catch the Whispered girl, and Sousuke is about to learn that the enemy is a very familiar one.

19. Attack on Titan
Thousands of years ago, monstrous humanoid creatures called titans slaughtered mankind to near extinction, forcing them to hide in fear behind massive concentric walls. Their taste for human flesh is not a result of hunger but seems to be a result of pleasure. In order to survive, the remnants of humanity built defensive barriers, and for a hundred years, it was possible to live without being confronted by a titan. Nevertheless, the fragile calm is soon broken when a colossal titan breaks through the supposedly impregnable walls, reigniting the war against the man-eating abominations.
As a result of witnessing his own horrific loss in the hands of the invading creatures, Eren Yeager devotes his life to their eradication by joining the Survey Corps, an elite unit that goes on the offensive outside the walls to combat the merciless humanoids. It describes Eren, along with his friend Armin Arlert and his adopted sister Mikasa Ackerman, as they are drawn into the brutal war against the titans and race to discover a way to defeat them before their last walls are breached.
In 1600, during the Battle of Sekigahara, Toyohisa Shimazu was guarding his retreating troops and was critically injured when he found himself in a white, modern hallway. Only one stoic man named Murasaki stands in Toyohisa’s way, and he is faced with hundreds of doors on either side. Toyohisa is then pulled through the nearest door and into an unfamiliar world.
There is all manner of fantastical creatures in the strange land, as well as warriors from different times of Toyohisa’s world who were believed to be dead. By befriending Nobunaga Oda and Yoichi Suketaka Nasu, Toyohisa learns of raging political unrest throughout the continent. Meanwhile, they have been assigned the role of “Drifters” and are fighting against the “Ends,” people responsible for the Orte Empire and trying to exterminate them. With the Ends growing stronger, the Empire is also increasing its persecution of elves and other demihumans. In a brand new world war, Toyohisa and his unconventional group of heroes must fight in a fight to protect the land and to challenge the Ends whilst helping the Empire’s subjects.
21. Heavy Object
In the far future, war has taken on a different form. “Objects” have taken over the battlefield. Huge spheres impervious to standard weaponry and equipped with devastating firepower, they are the sole source of victory, rendering traditional armies obsolete. It will soon be obvious that this method of warfare is going to be turned upside down.
Students Qwenthur Barbotage and Havia Winchell, both of noble birth, are soldiers in the Legitimate Kingdom’s 37th Mobile Maintenance Battalion tasked with maintaining the nation’s Baby Magnum, an Object. An unforeseen conflict puts the duo in a precarious situation: mere infantry is up against an unfathomable Object. As they fight to save themselves and each other, a glimmer of hope is seen, and forever the world’s perception of Objects is altered.
Heavy Object follows these soldiers and their commander, Frolaytia Capistrano, as they travel all over the world fighting battles. Faced with impossible circumstances after impossible situations, they must summon all their wits and courage to defeat the insurmountable foes that are Objects.
22. Vinland Saga
As a boy, Thorfinn listened to stories about old sailors who had traveled across the sea to Vinland, the land of legends. It would be a warm, fertile place with no need for fighting, unlike his frozen village in Iceland, and certainly not like his life as a mercenary now. He now lives in war. Thorfinn’s father once told him, “You have no enemies. There is no one you can hurt.” But as he grew older, he realized this was not the case.
Each year, England and Denmark are fighting a larger and more ferocious war. As the Viking mercenaries have become accustomed to death, they are loving it. A massive shift in power will occur if either side allies with the Vikings, and they are happy to collect the spoils they earn on their way. During the Chaos, Thorfinn must avenge his father and kill Askeladd. It appears that the Vikings’ only paradise is the era of war and death that continues.

23. Arslan Senki
It is year 320. The Kingdom of Pars is at war with the neighboring Empire of Lusitania under the reign of King Andragoras III. A far cry from his father, Arslan, the young prince, seeks to prove his valor for the first time on the battlefield. When one of the King’s most trusted officials betrays him, it decimates the Parsian army, leading to the siege of Ecbatana. After his army is in ruins and the Lusitanians are out for his head, Arslan is forced to flee. Arslan sets off on a journey to find allies who can help him take back his home with the assistance of Daryun, a respected general.
But the prince’s enemies extend far beyond those who occupy his kingdom. Another kingdom stands ready to conquer Ecbatana. Furthermore, the man behind Lusitania’s victory, a mysterious figure hiding behind a silver mask, is a danger to Arslan as he holds a secret that may jeopardize his right to succession.
To become King, Arslan must find the courage and strength necessary to overcome obstacles and allies who will aid him along the way.
24. Record of Grancrest War (grancrest Senki)
After the horrific Great Hall Tragedy, the continent of Atlatan is once again consumed by the flames of war. Sir Alexis Douse and Lady Marrine Kreische’s marriage, which was supposed to bring peace between the Fantasia Union and the Factory Alliance, instead became a tragedy. Suddenly, as the bride and groom walked down the aisle, a powerful convergence of Chaos interrupted the ceremony. Chaos is a dark energy from another dimension that corrupts the land and brings forth monsters and demons. A Demon Lord of Diabolos appeared from within that energy, instantly killing the archdukes of both factions, shattering any hope of peace between them.
In the aftermath of this catastrophe, Siluca Meletes, an Alliance mage, is traveling through Chaos-infested countryside in order to study under a master magician. Siluca is intercepted by a group of soldiers working with the Federation, and Hero Cornaro rescues her with a mysterious “Crest,” a magical symbol that enables its wielder to banish Chaos. Theo does not belong to any specific domain. Ultimately, he hopes to become a Lord so that he can free Sistina from its tyrannical ruler and the Chaos that is spreading within it. The noble goal of Siluca compel Theo to enter into a magical contract with him, and the two embark on a quest to restore balance to their war-torn land.
25. Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online
“Pink Devil” is a virtual reality game character clad in desert pink and the size of a small child that hunts down other players mercilessly. The player killer in real life turns out to be someone nobody would have expected.
Karen Kohiruimaki is a shy university student in Tokyo who stands in stark contrast to her avatar – and, to her dismay, stands above everyone else too. Her insecurities over her height make Karen seek refuge in the virtual world as an escape from all the people around her. As she begins game after game in the hopes of manifesting as the acute, short character, she finally finds her ideal in Gun Gale Online. The year is 2039 in Japan. Gai Tsutsugami, head of Funeral Parlor, acts as a freedom fighter, offering resistance to the brutal despotism of GHQ.

28. Argento Soma
Aliens have ravaged the Earth for several years by the year 2059. As a way to discover more about the aliens, Dr. Noguchi, Maki Agata, and Takuto Kaneshiro revive the professor’s experiment, a large Bio-Mechanical alien–known as Frank. The experiment is interrupted by a catastrophe, causing the alien to ‘come to life’ and Takuto to become the sole survivor as the lab is destroyed. When Frank roams the wilderness, he meets Hattie, a young girl whose parents perished in the first ‘close encounter’ war. Nevertheless, she manages to communicate with Frank, and soon after, they are apprehended by a secret agency called Funeral.
