The 20 Best Mexican Anime Characters in 2022 (With Original Art)

Table of Contents (TL:DR)

Anime is a Japanese creation that sometimes incorporates characters from other countries (like Mexican anime characters) who can add a lot of diversity to the plot.

Those characters sometimes become highly popular because of their appearance or how they can bring something new and original to the plot.

In this post, I will discuss some of my favorite Mexican and Latin characters in anime, so let’s begin.

1. Nadie – El Cazador de la Bruja

Her name means “nobody” in Spanish, and she is the protagonist of the old anime “El Cazador de la Bruja.”

She is a Mexican bounty hunter, marksman, and the sole survivor of an attack on her hometown.

She is also the protector of Ellis, and she can lose her temper easily despite having a very optimistic personality.

2. Sado Yasutora – Bleach

His nickname is Chad, which says a lot about this character.

Sado is a Mexican teenager who is stronger than you can imagine.

He is also extremely fast and capable of easily fighting powerful enemies.

He used to be an aggressive and violent individual.

But his grandfather, Oscar Joaquin de la Rosa, inspired him to be gentle and only to fight to protect others.

3. Pepe Iglesias – Megalo Box

This character only speaks Spanish in this anime.

Pepe Iglesias uses Spanish to insult and taunt his opponents while fighting.

He also uses Mexican sugar skulls in his outfit to represent himself.

Iglesias, just like Mexican athletes, knows how to hype up the crowd while performing.

4. Winters Socalo – D.Gray-Man

Winters was a death row inmate from Mexico with Aztec origins and has an aggressive temper and appearance.

He is an Exorcist General of the Black Order, the master of Aleister Crowley III, and the leader of the Socalo Unit.

Winters is a very harsh man who displays a sadistic love of both fighting and killing.

5. Chico Rodríguez – Mobile Fighter G Gundam

This is the representative of this new version of Mexico called “Neo Mexico” for the 13th Gundam Fight.

Chico accepted this role of the representative so his sister Gina, who has a terminal illness, could go to Earth with him, but he never wanted to fight in this war.

He is the pilot of the Tequila Gundam, a mecha with a robotic Mexican hat.

6. Musca Dio – Saint Seiya

No, we are not talking about Dio Brando, the beautiful vampire from Jojo’s.

This is Dio from Saint Seiya.

He is one of the 24 silver saints that fight for peace on Earth.

Dio’s cloth represents Musca, The Fly.

The funny thing is that this constellation was not used by the Greeks but was identified later in the 17th century by astronomers.

7. Peyote Diaz AKA Ramiro – Shaman King

He is a fan favorite from Shaman King because of his looks.

Peyote is a shaman from Mexico and one of the most devoted Hao’s followers.

Initially, Peyote was an emotionless and sadistic shaman who was willing to do everything for Hao.

But towards the end, he has a change of heart and questions Hao’s motives, even becoming suicidal.

8. Hawlucha – Pokemon

Pokemon don’t exactly have a nationality but Hawlucha seems to represent Mexico in some ways.

He is based on a mix between a falcon and a Lucha Libre wrestler.

The color of its plumage is an homage to the Mexican flag, and its face looks like a mask.

Plus, he is a fighter type and uses wrestling movements.

9. Ricardo Espadas – Captain Tsubasa

Everybody knows that many of Captain Tsubasa’s characters are inspired by real footballers.

In this case, Jorge Campos, one of the best goalkeepers in the world in his prime, inspired this Mexican goalkeeper Ricardo Espadas.

Espadas’ outfit and playing style were also heavily inspired by Campos, a nice tribute to a famous goalkeeper.

10. Lala Gonzalez – School Rumble

Lala is a transfer student from Mexico.

She has black hair, brown eyes, and dark skin and is also skilled in the Lucha Libre art.

Her father was responsible for teaching her wrestling after Karen, her mother, left.

She then moved to Japan to fulfill her father’s wish to become the greatest wrestler.

11. Marcos Eringrad Garcia – Terraformars

Marcos E. Garcia is a Mexican immigrant who, along with his two best friends, Sheila and Alex, escaped from his country and joined the Annex Project to obtain American citizenship and have a better life with them.

Marcos may look like a troublemaker who is always in a Super Saiyan state.

But he is a great guy who values friendship more than anything.

12. Ricardo Martinez – Hajime No Ippo

Ricardo is a Mexican featherweight boxer renowned for his kills.

His boxing style has been called “immeasurable and otherworldly” by several characters in the series.

He defeated Eiji Date, Japan’s strongest boxer in his weight class, twice.

His hand-eye coordination is extremely good, and is one of the toughest fighters Ippo has ever fought.

13. Leo de la Iglesia – Yuri!!! On Ice

This anime trolled every otaku in the world.

Yuri on Ice broke the internet when it was released.

While not one of the most important characters in the series, Leo de la Iglesia is a character who hails from Mexico.

He is an energetic figure skater who has won gold at Skate America and has a lot of fans around the world.

14. Quetzalcoatl – Fate/Grand Order

Quetzalcoatl is the adaptation of the Aztec god of the same name, so she makes our list of Latin anime characters.

She is a gentle god who loved her people and gave them many blessings.

Despite being gentle, she is a “Lucha Libre” addict with an enigmatic personality that can be turned harsh and merciless against enemies.

15. Alex Kandley Stewart – Terraformars

Despite his European name, he is Mexican.

Alex is a young adult who escaped from his country with his two best friends and joined the Annex Project to have a better life as an American citizen, and become a baseball player.

Alex is a friendly and loving guy who has a free-spirited personality.

16. Luxandra Frail – Divergence Eve

This is another Mexican character with no Latino name.

Luxandra is a beautiful woman who wanted to be an astronomer.

But after being caught in a near-fatal disaster, she decided to be a soldier so she could save innocent people.

She is very supportive and sometimes can be seen as a mother figure to the team.

17. Freeda Verasko – Blue Submarine No. 6

Verasko is 27 years old Mexican girl who works as the pilot of the Blue 6 submarine.

She was raised in a Mexican military family because her father was an officer in the Mexican army.

She is a very gentle girl.

Verasko greatly appreciates the beauty of paints and botany, and she also has a family.

She is married and has a 3-year-old child, but they have become separated due to the war.

18. Sheila Levitt – Terraformars

Sheila is a Mexican girl who left the country along with her mother with the help of their family and friends after her father committed suicide.

She and her two childhood friends, Marcos and Alex, joined the Annex I project to have a “better life.”

Sheila is friendly, gentle, and shy and always has a positive attitude, even in hard situations.

19. Jinn Gehenam – Mobile Suit Victory Gundam

Jinn is of Mexican descent and acts as the League Militaire leader to confuse enemies of the organization’s real leader, Hangerg Ewin.

After Jinn’s leadership is revealed as a fake, Jinn, to assert his control over the League Militaire, began commanding attacks against the Zanscare Empire.

20. Thunder Hawk – Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie

Thunder Hawk may be more a videogame character than an anime character, but he appeared in the movie, so that automatically make him into an anime character.

He is a brave, noble, tough, and unsympathetic man who wants revenge against M. Bison for hurting and killing his people and damaging his homeland.
