22 Must Watch Anime Like Code Geass

Code Geass is one of the most loved and favoured titles in anime history, with its grand tier of excitement throughout. One might say Code Geass is a beacon for what other animes should be striving to achieve, as it has all these elements on an exceptional level while climbing to the top rank.

The Story Of Code Geass:

The Holy Empire of Brittania is a country with the most advanced military in all existence, and it has always been at war. Their goal was to conquer every other place on Earth for their own territory and power. After winning Japan, they took away its freedom by renaming it Area 11–a land where its citizens are treated as lower than low within their homeland! This sad story can’t go on any longer; the people want nothing more but to regain what’s theirs: Freedom!

Lelouch Lamperouge, a Britannian student with an unfortunate knack for finding himself caught in a cross-fire between Britannia and rebel forces, finds his luck change when he encounters C.C., who grants him Geass; The power of Kings! In awe at what this newfound ability could do, Lelouch embarks on a perilous journey to get revenge once and for all as Zero leading a merciless onslaught against Britania.

I know what you’re thinking. You want more anime that is just as great and popular, right? Well, here are some recommendations for those looking to have a similar experience with the likes of Code Geass.

22. Aldnoah.Zero

Aldnoah.Zero is a show that understands the cost of war as much as Code Geass does and presents a world where casualties are already in the millions, and significant losses have been faced by both sides- leaving characters with an impossible decision to make; we need luck on our side, or this will be over quickly. I think what makes Aldnoah so compelling, even though it’s only 12 episodes long (compared to season 1 of Code Geass, which was 26 episodes), is how willing they were to give up their mecha technology early on for more tactical methods like hacking enemy headquarters remotely through computer viruses planted within them beforehand- these moves not only leave heroes at risk but also prove just how smart its villain really can be!

In the world of Darker than Black, there’s a cataclysm when Hell Gate appears in Tokyo. And with that comes supernatural powers and change to reality. The awakening of Hei’s power isn’t too different from Lelouch- he handles him more responsibly, but their paths don’t differ much as both resist against what is happening around them.

The Gates had been termed as spaces in which the very laws of physics are ignored, and with them came Contractors. These people – those who were willing to trade their humanity for supernatural abilities- emerged from around Hell’s Gate after they appeared one day. Section 4 Chief Misaki Kirihara finds herself at odds with a notorious Contractor codenamed Hei that is called “Black Reaper” underground. When she becomes aware of his nefarious plots against her world, it leads into an intense battle between two worlds: ours and theirs.”

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED offers a different take on the typical war-ridden show, as it focuses more so on how those in power are able to control society. 6. Steins;Gate

Steins;Gate is a thrilling anime series that fearlessly broaches heady and complicated material such as time travel and existential paradoxes, but it rises to the occasion at every opportunity. The plot starts off with an eccentric scientist who has created a device he calls “The Phone Microwave”, which can send text messages into the past!

Steins; Gate takes on some very heavy subject matter – from physics theory to philosophy-and yet it never fails to entertain thanks to its well-written characters, creative storytelling methods like making its protagonist go through all of his previous failed attempts in order for him not implode upon himself when trying again (which only makes sense if you’ve seen what I’m talking about!), hilarious dialogue exchanges between Okabe’s friends.

5. Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet (Suisei no Gargantia)

He decides that living in Gargantia might not be so bad in order to get some help from Amy and her friends!

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and Code Geass are both chaotic mecha series that deal with a world in turmoil, but while the former is more action-oriented than the latter. Both of these shows explore how war is full of casualties and something that should be minimized rather than exploited, but Code Geass wallows more on moral ramifications for those decisions. For people looking to get lost amongst abstract visuals or not face overwhelming depression, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagaan may just fit what you need!

3. The Promised Neverland

The Promised Neverland is a popular anime series that does not follow the typical shounen tropes. More of a psychological anime, it is about three extremely smart kids who grew up in a happy and chilled orphanage until they come to realize it’s really just a farm for livestock. They try their best to escape but are caught by surprise at how difficult it can be when one of them tries and fails on his own– this gives all three children hope because if there’s anything worse than being captured as food: having nobody else to share your experience with would-be unending torture.
