Story Of Bleach
Ichigo Kurosaki had a normal life until his family was attacked by the Hollow. Rukia Kuchiki, who is unable to regain her supernatural powers after protecting Ichigo’s family from the assailant, offers him hers so she can save them instead. Ichigo accepts and becomes Soul Reaper as a result of this deal with Rukia but finds himself in over his head when he has to hunt down all these dangerous creatures that plague their town alongside some friends.
Below are our awesome anime recommendations for shounen anime like Bleach.
Yoshimura Sumamura is a “Kekkaishi” who must fight to protect his school and hometown from the ugly demons that come out at night. He would much rather bake cakes than have anything to do with fighting, but it’s not up for debate!
Yoshimura Sumamura is from a long line of individuals who have supernatural powers able to destroy evil spirits called Ayakashi that venture into the human realm. Tokine is a bright ray of sunshine in Yoshimura’s life, but when they join forces against the Ayakashi and their shadowy organization allies, she becomes more than just that. Along with spiritual powers, this shounen anime is a mix of action, romance, and comedy, just like Bleach.
Buso Renkin is a typical shounen series. The protagonist has a mysterious power that keeps getting stronger. When high school student Kazuki Muto was killed one night, saving a mysterious girl from a monster, he had no idea it wasn’t just his imagination. Soon after waking up in his dorm believing the dream to be over, another giant serpentine creature attacks him and his sister.
Tokiko Tsumura explains that this is not an imaginary beast, but instead, something called a homunculus. Tokiko had placed Kakugane medallion inside of him as a replacement heart when she revived him after dying trying to save Tokiko. After being told by Tokiko what a Kakugane is, Kazuki decides to create his own Buso Renkin. With the help of Tokiko and her own Buso Renkin, he joins in on the fight against homunculi monsters with their master.
Ghost Slayers Ayashi
The Ayakashi are warriors who protect Japan from the deadly Yoi. They gather information about odd events in the country and then travel to destroy these monsters when they appear. Some have special powers that allow them to win against their enemy while others maintain a more traditional approach with weapons like swords or knives; however, all agree on one thing: The Yoi must be destroyed before they take over our world!
Ken Kaneki has it tough; he’s not fully human, but also isn’t a ghoul. His normal life is changed with the chance encounter of one such creature, and now his “normal” doesn’t exist anymore – at least until he figures out how to balance two worlds that have very little in common besides both hating him for being different. And just like Bleach, we have a popular anime where the protagonist uses the special powers of the enemy to fight them.
Hell Teacher Nube
The monster teacher Nube is wise, kind and an expert at fighting on the battlefield with his powerful left hand. You see, he has a special power: he can sense ghosts which makes him very helpful to protect students from evil spirits. Nube and the students deal with ghosts, UFO’s, youkai, oni, and evil souls that are causing havoc in their school. Urban legends about spirits of suicides or odd gods appear in these episodes as well.
Ushio to Tora
Ushio has always thought his father‘s old tale of an ancient ancestor impaling a demon on the temple altar stone with the legendary Beast Spear was nuts- but when he finds one in his own basement, Ushio takes another look at that family legend. Fortunately, it is best to let sleeping dogs lie and leave captured demons where they are. Unfortunately for him, once released from their captivity -the monster unleashes its evil energies, which begins beckoning other demons into town! In order to save innocent bystanders like himself as well as friends and family from these invading spirits, he sets out in search of Tora, who had been imprisoned away by ancestors long ago.
Ushio to Tora is a shounen anime with a supernatural theme like Bleach. While Bleach has Hollows, Ushio to Tora features Youkai. Both the series have protagonists taking on mystic power after dire situations; in this case, protagonist Ushio Aotsuki accepts his newfound ability while fighting off dangerous monsters that threaten humanity–the youkai!
One day, Tanjirou decides to go down the mountain and sell some charcoal his father had made. It was dark, so he took shelter in a strange man’s house who warned him about flesh-eating demons that lurked at night. When he finally arrives back home the next day, he is met with a horrifying sight— Tanjiro’s family was slaughtered, and he vowed to avenge them. Alongside the Demon Slayer Corps, Tanjo will do whatever it takes to slay demons and protect his sister Nezuko from her demon side, which is consuming more of what little humanity she has left. Similar to the Soul Society from Bleach, Demon Slayer has the Slayer corps, but rather than corrupted human souls, we have demons.
Attack on Titan
Eren watched as the colossal Titan attacked his hometown and shredded it to pieces. His mother was eaten alive in front of him before he could do anything about it, but Eren swore that if anything mattered at all anymore-he would take revenge on every last Titan and avenge humanity. It is later revealed that Eren has the extraordinary powers of a titan, and, just like Ichigo, he uses this destructive power to fight the titans. But fair warning, this dark anime has a habit of killing off their colorful characters.
The world is a dangerous place where demons prey on unsuspecting humans, but luckily there are some that stand in the way of these powerful beings. There’s this school known as Jujutsu magicians who protect us from all evil things, such as Ryoumen Sukuna. They’re so sneaky and clever they didn’t even leave any pieces to chance for other monsters trying to come to take over our land!
The Blue Exorcist is a shounen series that’s only getting better with each new instalment. Much like Bleach, this show centers around warriors who hunt spirits for a living. Rin and Yukio Okumura are the stars of this story and have an uncanny knack to take down demons – much like Bleach’s main protagonist Rin Okumura is still in high school; there is an organization of exorcists like the Soul Society of soul reapers; Rin is using the enemy’s special powers against them; and a tremendous amount of sword fighting.
D Grey Man
D. Grey man is a show that can be as creepy, or even more so than Blue Exorcist and Bleach! Like those titles, it also follows young protagonists who battle evil spirits for a living, but the creepiness comes in waves of high power horror moments; for most of the series, Allen Walker wages war with his demonic left arm, which replaced his original appendage years ago. Even scarier? The main villain Millennium Earl – an evil character just as cryptic and devilishly clever as Aizen was. D. Grey man offers awesome fights and a lovable cast of characters. Every now and then, we get to see Allan’s powerful weapon: the anti-Akuma weapon.

Kagome Higurashi is a 15-year old girl who was pulled into the past when she fell down an ancient well. She gets saved from being eaten by demons and meets InuYasha – her guardian angel (or at least that’s what he tells Kagome). Together they go around collecting shards of The Shikon Jewel to protect it before something happens with it again. Along the way are intense battles against powerful enemies that aim to stop them from putting the jewel back together.
Inuyasha is an anime about demon hunting around the Sengoku period of Japan. The cast of characters are usually the most interesting aspect, but in some instances, Inuyasha becomes a little like Bleach. Inuyasha, with his excessive Wind Scar sword technique, is the predecessor to Ichigo’s Getsuga Tenshō spamming! And both these likable characters wield a huge weapon.

Yu Yu Hakusho
Yu Yu Hakusho is a 90s action anime that follows Yusuke Urameshi through his adventures as he seeks to become the best Spirit Detective. This anime has tons of epic fights, likable characters and story arc, but one, in particular, stands out: The Dark Tournament Arc. It really does have an outstanding plotline with gripping writing and nail-biting fights that will keep you on your toes. Probably the same amount of action in Bleach.
Sengoku Basara: Samurai Kings
This anime is a fulfilling action-packed ride that features real Samurai, shoguns and ninja from Japan’s legendary Warring States period. You’ll be entertained by awesome fight scenes featuring epic battles of Oda Nobunaga, Date Masamune and more!
Seven Samurai became such a popular anime that Hollywood even created The Magnificent Seven – a Western version of the Japanese classic. This action anime is funny, action-packed, and ultimately heartbreaking–everything Bleach was in its heyday before it got too serious with filler arcs and characters.
