The world of anime is full of mysteries, but the one thing we all want to know is why does it seem like so many characters have some sort of curse that turns their hair white? Though there are a few theories out on what causes this phenomenon, in truth- people who have been through traumatic events often find themselves with premature greys. And when you think about how much stress these characters in anime go through from time to time we could understand the symbolism.
Not many people can pull off white hair. It’s not a common color, but it does have its advantages in anime settings where you would otherwise show the character as otherworldly and mysterious. Here are the best anime characters with white hair we could find.

Kanata Nanami (Starry☆Sky)
Kanata is a very passionate anime boy whose white hair doesn’t just denote his age but also symbolizes the important part of the physical state that it stands for. Brash and impulsive, he has been friends with Tsukiko since childhood and developed feelings for her- not to mention being on bad terms with You because they don’t get along well at all.
Kanata suffers from an illness that leaves him in a lethargic state; this explains why he often skips classes or faints without warranting explanation sometimes. But as much as he protests medical help, even though school fights worsen his health further by harming himself more than anyone else: he will always protect what’s most dear to him: Tsukiko.
Hajime Nagumo (Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest)
Hajime had a kind face and attitude, but after falling into the abyss, he began to develop violent degeneration. When Hajime drank sacred water, it made his body heal by destroying bones and muscles then healing over again, leaving him with white hair. His eyes also turned red as well as tattoo-like lines which is the sign of him becoming a demonic monster similar to what he ate. He soon finds himself becoming powerful and surrounded by female characters.
Sophia “Vampire Girl” Keren (So I’m a Spider, So What?)
A very powerful character in the series; Sophia Keren, a former student and reincarnated as an undead vampire in the other world. She works for demons to hunt down various clones of Potimas with orders from Shiro directly under her command. She is a skilled swordsman and proficient in magic. She’s the type of person that would do her work without minding what her classmates think of her.
Hatsuharu Souma (Fruits Basket)
Souma, or “The Ox,” as he’s often called, has a temper, and it is not to be trifled with. When Souma gets angry, opponents quickly learn that they should stay on his good side, but fans of the white-haired teen are in awe at how easily one can bring out another layer of his personality.

Zero Kiryuu (Vampire Knight)
Zero, a Guardian and also an elder vampire hunter, is one of the most popular students in Cross Academy. He may seem like just another student, but he’s much more than that! Yashiro Isana (K)
Yashiro is a soft-spoken and very charismatic joker who loves to get free lunch from his schoolmates. Despite being gentle, he has surprisingly impressive mental abilities that set him apart when it comes to battle.
Soul Evans (Soul Eater)
Dr. Stein: I have seen many souls, but none as twisted and sarcastic as Evans’ soul. With his naughty attitude, charming piano skills, devotion, and the ability to transform himself into a powerful weapon Evans is anything but forgettable. “Soul” to his friends; His human appearance as that of a teenage boy with forever present drool coming from his mouth. His way of absorbing souls is by literally eating them – he says it’s not about taste or texture- only what you feel inside when they’re being eaten.

To some, he’s just an old man who has perverted tendencies and is a bit of a drunk. To others, he may be that one teacher or father figure in anime you found to support your cause with all their might. He holds the key part among other traits as being able to summon powerful frogs at will when needed for battle purposes – making him indispensable!
The best way to describe Ginko is as a chill guy with messy hair who helps the world. You may not get much from him in terms of action, but you will definitely gather some wisdom. He’s very rare and attracts mushi like crazy; this makes his peripatetic lifestyle necessary because staying in one place too long will cause an unmeasurable amount of mushi that could be harmful for humans or other living creatures around him. While he can seem laid-back at times, when it comes down to protecting people against these pesky little things called “mushi,” he gets really serious about putting them back where they belong! Ginko also always stresses how nothing is evil–it just exists as part of nature.
Killua Zoldyck (Hunter X Hunter)
This cunning assassin has a wicked sense of humour and is always eager to try new tricks. He can be kind, too, if his friends or innocent lives are at stake. His confidence never wavers as he knows just how skilled he really is!
Decim (Death Parade)
Decim looks like he is made of stone, but his respect for people with fulfilling lives may be one of the few things that can crack through. He has a very peculiar hobby of putting dummies together and dressing them up-, in fact, it’s more than just a hobby – its obsession!
Archer (Fate/Stay Night)
Archer is a Servant of one of the series’ main heroines, Rin Toosaka. Although he may seem hard on the outside and sarcastic at first glance, his realistic outlook has allowed him to become an exemplary fighter in nearly all areas with skills that are unmatched by any other.
Nate River (Death Note)
Nate is a character in the Death Note series who possesses an intelligent and analytical mind, questioning everything around him. He uses his extraordinary reasoning skills to play an integral role during many moments of conflict within the story’s timeline. Near showcases some awkward behaviours such as hunched posture or playing with toys when he isn’t working on solving cases for L (his boss).
His quirks are not limited to these examples but spread out throughout all aspects of life; one can often see strands of hair being idly twiddled by this eccentric child prodigy while lost in thought about what could happen next.
Shougo Makishima (Psycho-pass)
Shougo and his white hair enjoy both the kind and devilish sides of human life. A skilled fighter, avid reader, a little bit sadistic, to be honest, but with an incredible charisma that attracts people like flies on honey! Definitely boyfriend material for those who might have missed out (or want another go) on bad boys before in their lives.
Allen Walker (D. Gray Man)
This lovable anime boy has the cuteness and charm to make fangirls’ hearts work overtime. Don’t be fooled; underneath all of that kindness also lies a clever little devil who is very competitive and sometimes gluttonous as well; Walker learned circus skills such as juggling from Mana-a fellow clown. His synchronization ratio reached its maximum at 83% before his innocence was destroyed.

He has an ability called “Vector Change,” a form of telekinesis allowing him to change the vector values of anything he touches.
Ken Kaneki (Tokyo Ghoul)
It’s interesting how the acquisition of his white hair is what marked a pivotal point in Ken’s character development. Rather than being just another stylistic addition, when he lost his original black hair with its draining, it represented shedding an old world and birth to a very different one.
Kaworu Nagisa (Neon Genesis Evangelion)
The white haired angel in Neon Genesis Evangelion comes as Kaworu. With intelligence, bravery, and charisma to spare, this anime boy is a sight for sore eyes, especially with his signature smirk.
Emilia is a silver-haired, half-elf girl who has been discriminated against because of her appearance. She doesn’t like to admit that she’s good-natured and instead thinks it’s just selfishness on her part when in reality, Emilia likes taking care of others.
Garou (One Punch Man)
Garou was the best disciple in Bang’s dojo until he went on a rampage against his fellow students and disabled many of them for life. He was expelled after getting beaten by Bang. The fights Garou had been involved with were highly anticipated as it wasn’t one punch KOs, but rather prolonged brawls where Garou slowly learned how to read his opponent’s moves and counter their attacks – But then Saitama swatted him away like an insignificant fly!
Shion “Sion” (No. 6)
Shion is the most innocent anime boy you will ever meet. With his puppy dog eyes and silky soft voice, he’s not afraid to be your best friend in any situation that life throws at him. He may always need a helping hand or two with tasks but loves being helpful when people are down on their luck! This angelic boy can also daydream like nobody else, so it might take some time for him to get back into reality if he gets lost in thought while playing by himself early morning hours.
The story of Inuyasha has captivated many fans over the years, and its white haired protagonist is one of the most recognizable characters in anime. Inuyasha’s regenerative abilities are a side effect of his youkai blood. Love gets complicated when he falls in love with Kagome too, but that doesn’t stop him from trying to get Kikyo back!

Toushirou Hitsugaya (Bleach)
As a child, Toushirou was an obnoxious little brat who enjoyed eating watermelons and teasing Hinamori. With his perpetually grumpy attitude, Captain Hitsugaya is one of the most popular anime boys with white hair – ever. Love him or hate him (which appears to be the only two ways you can feel about the unruly boy), his fluffy white hair and ice dragon have certainly left their mark in our fandom.
Hatake Kakashi (Naruto)
Kakashi is one of the most mysterious, respected sensei in the anime world. For instance, his white hair and perverted personality make him stand out among others. His book reading habit also does not help with this matter as he owns a copy of “Icha Icha Paradise”, which happens to be an adult novel written by Jiraiya, who has many books under his belt that makes Kakashi’s hobby seem innocent when contrasted against it. It is no wonder why he evasively says “many hobbies” every time people ask about himself!
Tomoe (Kamisama Kiss)
Tomoe is a familiar to the last land god, Mikage. Currently, he is Nanami’s familiar and sealed their contract with a kiss. He shows an amazing talent for cooking and is shown to be highly dedicated to the shrine that they live at together in Kyoto. It may seem like Tomoe doesn’t want anyone else near his beloved girl, but it has been subtly hinted that there are feelings of love between these two companionship spirits from different worlds
– as well as acts of kindness when you learn about how hard life was before she met him! Plus, jealousy can only mean one thing.
Soushi Miketsukami (Inu X Boku Secret Service)
A nine-tailed spirit fox with the ability to speak and look handsome, Soushi is also extremely gentle, calm, and loving. He usually speaks calmly but will be defensive of Riricho when she’s insulted or hurt by others in his presence. As a result, he blindly obeys her like a “dog”, always trying to protect her above himself, even risking death at times.
Zen Wistalia (Snow White with the Red Hair)
ZEN is the Zen-est of all Zens! Zen is a prince who does not look down on anyone and remains humble. Zen has built up an immunity against various poisons by exposing himself to controlled doses of them as a child, which was meticulously documented by his doctors. On top of that, he’s also gentle, emphatic and easy-going – all traits prevalent in his personality!
Juuzou Suzuya (Tokyo Ghoul)
People tend to think that Juuzou’s ghoul investigator status makes him seem like a lovable little creature. They don’t realize how deadly he really is, despite his pale skin and white hair! In fact, if you’re on the wrong side of this guy’s blade, it doesn’t matter who or what you are–he’ll slice ’em in half with no remorse just for fun. He may look cute but trust me when I say stay away from these ears because they can sense blood even better than most animals’ noses!
Norman (The Promised Neverland)
Norman is a little man that has the poise of an adult and intelligence beyond his years. He was not as edgy as Ray, but rather calculating and brilliant in how he handled situations where betrayal could be possible. Norman always knew what to say or do when Emma lost faith, even though she would never admit it!
She’s the witch of greed, but she always has a smile on her face. It’s uncertain whether it is genuine or not, as when Subaru needs help, he’ll get something in return and vice versa. She may be cute, too- just saying!
Sophia Ascart (My Next Life as a VILLAINESS: ALL ROUTES LEAD TO DOOM!)
She is a cursed child. Her white hair, red eyes and usually very pale skin color make her disgusting to most people she meets, but that does not bother Katrina, who befriends the girl at an early age when they share their love of novels together. The little sister Nicole has also been known for being excessively protective over this small young woman with such power as herself.
Komugi (Hunter X Hunter)
Komugi is a blind girl with an affinity for Gung-gi. She was introduced during the Chimera Ant arc, and she quickly became Meruem’s favorite opponent; he loved to play against her because of how good she was at playing. Despite being human, Komugi often had no problem beating him in their games.
Shiro (No Game No Life)
Shiro is a genius in logic problems, with a complex personality. She has difficulty understanding emotions or behaviour. She relies on Sora to help her defeat human opponents such as Tet in their chess match and rarely shows much emotion at all on her face despite being so smart. Shiro also displays signs of jealousy if he pays serious attention to other girls, which makes for an interesting relationship dynamic.
Neferpitou (Hunter X Hunter)
Neferpitou is an intelligent and playful cat-like Chimera Ant who loves to play with its opponents as a cat would. They are easily distracted, but they’re always curious as well. Despite their cheerful and playful manner, Neferpitou has an equally scarier side when they get into the mood for some sadistic fun – so it’s always best not to anger them!
Elizabeth Liones (Seven Deadly Sins)
Elizabeth might have been a damsel in distress at first, but boy did she get her makeover. Initially, just your average female love interest who put up with suspicious amounts of foundling from Blondy Shorts, after her backstory is revealed, we learn two important things: First off, the story about Elizabeth and Meliodas was extremely tragic; Second of all, this angel can whoop butt!

Aru Akise (Future Diary)
Akise didn’t have a future diary, but that didn’t mean he was helpless. He managed to outwit the other players in spite of not having any special powers! Akise’s cunning and athleticism helped him win against formidable opponents like Yuno, who had all sorts of power-ups at her disposal.
Shouto Todoroki (My Hero Academia)
Well, not his entire hair; Shouto is the perfect mix of white and red hair color. With his burn on one eye, he makes a pretty hot hero! In order to protect himself from villains out for revenge or just want him dead as soon as they can get their hands on him, Shouto’s outfit includes metal capsules in case things go south really quick. He also has boots, so when someone steps too close to you-you’ll be ready with your martial arts skills that have been honed by years of training.

Misha Necron (The Misfit of Demon King Academy)
Misha is the kind of girl who doesn’t let a single person go without her kindness. We first see it when she was introduced in episode one, being nice to Demon Kirito and even going out of her way for him despite what he has done to injure others just because “he looked so scared.” And later, we see that not only does this extend towards people with bad intentions but also those close to her.
Ja’far (Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic)
Ja’far is that cool, dashing assassin with just enough of a sense of humour to keep things light. He provides Sinbad with the guidance he needs without being overbearing or overly serious about it all – which can be very hard for someone who has so much responsibility on his shoulders and such an adventurous spirit at heart.

Aqua is so shallow and vindictive that she can’t wrap her head around why people love Eris. But it should be pretty obvious, really: She’s kind, adorable, and gets flustered easily- more than Aqua or Zeus ever will! There’s a huge debate whether or not there are pads in certain places, though.
Isaac Netero (Hunter X Hunter)
Netero is the Chairman of the Hunter Committee and has been in charge for a long time. He’s such an old man that he was young when Zeno (Nero) was just born! Netero says himself that if you can’t beat him, then any other hunter will do because they’re all weaker than him anyway. The powerful Chairman who never ages – at least not visibly, as seen by various accounts which put his age over 100 years old. He’s a very friendly person yet very powerful and deadly.
Byakuya Ishigami (Dr Stone)
Upon his introduction, Senku’s father was not the coolest dad figure in anime. But as time went on and he began to teach him life lessons during their brief moments together, it became clear that they were more than just an average father-son duo. His unflinching belief in Senku, paired with a desire to make his son proud of himself no matter what happens, is enough for me to get emotional.
Shiro (Deadman Wonderland)
The first thing that stands out about Shiro, other than that pale skin, is her carefree attitude, as she’s never too aware of what might happen next. She has a tendency to act rather childishly when Ganta does something wrong, and it makes an otherwise peaceful place feel tense for the rest of us (which isn’t much better). With such a sweet personality, no one even knows what her crime was or why they are keeping this angel captive when she is clearly not hurting anyone.
Nao Tomori (Charlotte)
Nao is a tsundere-ish girl who sometimes likes to kick people in the face but also has her moments of kindness. One time she followed Yuu for days just to make sure he never went off the deep end again. She didn’t do it immediately because she knew how to hurt he was, and so when other times came where they needed saving, Nao stepped up!
Yukichi Fukuzawa (Bungo Stray Dogs)
Sensei characters are often overlooked in the world of anime. Yukichi is able to keep his party balanced, making sure no one goes off on their own without thinking about what they’re doing, and he doesn’t let anyone go overboard while fighting. He makes it a point to put others before himself and always tries his hardest for them!
Black Hanekawa (Nekomonogatari Black)
Hanekawa’s alter-ego is a snarky kitty! She might be small, but she has the heart of an alley cat and will stand up to anyone who crosses her. Her power level rivals that of black cats in other stories; don’t cross this fluffy feline if you know what’s good for you.
Najenda (Akame Ga Kill)
Najenda, also known as The Hunk of the Rebellion and leader of Night Raid, is a cold-hearted killer. Clever with her wit and humorously sharp-minded, she’s not someone you want to get on your bad side. Her years of training in the Empire have made for an efficient killing machine that will never give up until it gets what it wants – even if they are mistakes!

Yaichi (House of Five Leaves)
As a charismatic leader of the “Five Leaves,” he is very mysterious and doesn’t reveal much about his own past, preferring to live in one particular brothel where he protects women. He has light colored hair, which also makes him easy to distinguish by sight–especially when smoking a pipe with dark skin! At first glance, this man seems carefree; however, as we learn more about him throughout the series.
Licht (Black Clover)
Licht, the leader of Elf Tribe and one of its ten apostles, was married to a human woman Tetia. Licht’s complex nature made him interesting as he had time for his character development but apart from this being able to explore more in length.
Five (Terror in Resonance)
When the FBI was tasked with investigating a terrorist attack, they sent their best team. A brave woman who is not only an expert in nuclear science but also fluent in Japanese.
