14 Must Watch Anime If You Like Assassination Classroom

Assassination Classroom is a shonen anime series that has seen nearly universal acclaim. It offers something new to the genre with a compact timeline and a fascinating premise, so it doesn’t get bogged down by unnecessary details or draggy episodes.

Assassination Classroom is one of the best anime series to be released in recent years. Its climax was everything a viewer could have hoped for. It has been an emotional journey watching the students of class 3-E grow some of their prime skills as assassins by taking down Koro Sensei with wits rather than violence. Though it may not be appropriate for all age groups due to graphic content involving death or injury, this show manages to portray raw human emotion more authentically than most other popular media sources today, which makes it worth your time if you are looking for quality entertainment on that level!

Finding another anime like Assassination Classroom is a difficult undertaking, but many embody the same wacky spirit. Some take the high school genre to new heights with their insanity, while others share bloodlust for action and adventure just as well. This list will help find your next favorite show if you need something else to watch besides Assasinsion Classroom!

Medaka Box

medaka box anime like assassination classroom

Medaka Box is a shounen series with a crazy atmosphere, similar to Assassination Classroom. The first thing the boisterous new student president of Hakoniwa Academy does is set up a suggestion box, allowing students to submit any kind of request for assistance.

Together with her childhood friend, who has been forced into helping, she fulfills these requests at an unbelievable rate; every job they complete adds flowers to the student council room until it fills out all of Medaka’s school and beyond! However, the two are about to find out that helping others may be a lot harder than they think as they begin to uncover a devastating plan centering on the academy and even Medaka herself!

Riddle Story of Devil

riddle story of devil anime like assassination classroom

Tokaku Azuma transfers to the elite Myoujou Academy, a private girls’ boarding school.

But there’s a catch: she is one of twelve assassins, and her first day introduces them all with their target- Haru Ichinose. Whoever succeeds will be granted their deepest desire no matter how hard it might seem or expensive for others like Tokaku, who has nothing left but revenge on those responsible for her family’s death. The competition begins when they are told that whoever can kill Haru before midterms get an automatic A in any subject. At the same time, if everyone fails, then they will have failed at life and expelled from classes forever.

Riddle Story of Devil is a manga with similar premises to Assassination Classroom. Still, it offers lesbian representation through its female-driven cast. High school girl Tokaku Azuma discovers her fellow classmates at Myoujou Academy are actually assassins just like her, and they’re given an order to kill sweet Haru Ichinose for the promise of whatever their heart desires; however, after bonding with Haru, Tokaku decides she would rather protect that person instead.

Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei

sayonara zetsubou sensei anime like assassination classroom

Nozomu Itoshiki is a high school teacher so pessimistic that even the smallest of misfortunes can send him into an abyss of despair. Some catastrophes have led to suicide attempts, but luckily for him, there are always students who show up ready to drag his sorry ass back from the brink.

A slice of life anime: Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei follows different parts of Japanese culture and society through Nozomu’s interactions with his eccentric pupils: Kiri Komori – a recluse refusing to leave her classroom; Abiru Kobushi-a mysterious girl arriving at class battered badly enough they might be considered crimes against humanity (if such things existed in this grounded world); Kafuka Fuura-positively bordering on psychotic optimism and other colorful characters, all of whom are just as eccentric as their teacher.

Considering how weird the humor of Assassination Classroom can get, it’s only fitting to recommend another abnormal high school comedy in its place. Episode one opening up with Nozomu trying to hang himself off a cherry blossom shows just how bleak and bizarre this gag anime really is!

Kill La Kill

kill la kill anime like assassination classroom

Kill la Kill is a high school anime that offers an alternative take on the typical setting. The protagonist, Ryuuko Matoi, must overthrow the hierarchy of Honnouji Academy to defeat talented students who rule with violence and cruelty. To do this, she has to get stronger by fighting against her classmates in over-the-top action sequences full of fun moments like playful sexuality and cartoonish exaggerations, making it one thrilling ride!

Kill la Kill is one of the few series that features just as much combat and chaos in a school setting as Assassination Classroom. In fact, their educational institution is governed by battle rankings and fierce competition. Much like most anime created from TRIGGER (studio known for its gorgeous animation), it looks absolutely stunning with some amazing fight sequences to boot!

The action in this action anime series is elevated to hyperbolic levels thanks to the extraterrestrial living fibers that power the characters, which feel like a powerful force comparable with Koro-Sensei.

One-Punch Man

One-Punch Man is a deconstruction of the superhero genre and parody in general. The protagonist, Saitama, has gone so far as to make it his goal to become bored with life because he became too powerful after just one punch! Unlike other heroes who are humble, unassuming, or even unaware that they’re superheroes at all, One-Punch Man’s characters have found themselves on this path for different reasons; becoming an autodidact hero like Genos trying something new out of boredom or being forced into heroism by monsters threatening their home town like Mumen Rider.

On the surface, it doesn’t seem like Assassination Classroom, and One-Punch Man have much in common. After all, Koro-sensei wants to destroy the world while Saitama from One Punch Man wants someone greater than him or herself so that he can save humanity once more. But both these characters share one desire: they don’t feel complete without a challenge set before them, for their power of skill alone cannot be appreciated by society as heroes anymore (or at least not fully). There is something about defeating an opponent with equal skills and an advantage over you, giving us that sense of accomplishment we need every day

Katekyo Hitman Reborn!

Assassination Classroom shares a major theme with Katekyo Hitman Reborn: turning regular people into deadly assassins.

Tsuna’s life takes a turn for the worst when he meets Reborn, who happens to be an assassin and shockingly just a baby! Sent from one of Italy’s most notorious Mafia families, it is up to him (Reborn) to prepare Tsuna for his new future as the ninth boss. Alongside their criminal affiliates and even small home tutor Regulus, maybe Loser Tsuna can become someone great after all.

Both of these anime provide radical takes on dangerous hitmen, with Katekyo Hitman Reborn! Providing the story about an adorable child who trains a high school burnout to take over his mob family. They have similar goals and even some similarities when it comes to their unconventional methods.

Angel Beats!

angel beats a top 20 list of the best drama anime for your viewing pleasure

High School life is such a relatable concept that countless anime apply different fantastical filters to the environment. Angel Beats! Turns to angels and spirituality rather than the alien and apocalyptic ultimatum present in Assassination Classroom.

Angel Beats! is a creative spin-off of the mundane high school experience. The show depicts limbo as an afterlife for teenagers who are not yet ready to pass on. Yuzuru Otonashi finds himself caught in a war between students and angelic student council president Kanade Tachibana. Assassination Classroom fans will find many parallels with Angel Beats!, including director Seiji Kishi’s comedic style, which highlights both shows’ clever take on everyday life at high schools worldwide.

When looking at the two anime, one can see that both are very similar. From comedy to character development and changes in direction midway through their respective series, it’s no wonder why so many people have been raving about these shows for years now.

Baka & Test: Summon The Beasts

baka test summon the beasts anime like assassination classroom

Baka and Test: Summon the Beasts is an anime that, like Assassination Classroom, follows a group of loser students at the bottom of their respective barrels. The delinquent kids band together to take down those above them to make it out alive from this school with some dignity.

The students at this school have a different approach to the honor system. They call their beasts and use them as pawns in battles against other schools’ forces. However, these monsters are only as strong as the score on your tests! An interesting twist shows how important grades really can be for some people’s lives or death struggles.

Mob Psycho 100

Mob Psycho 100 is an anime with a protagonist who can use his psychic powers. Still, he lacks confidence in himself and often avoids using them. Nevertheless, the story follows him as he tries to stop evil people from doing bad things by using his abilities and live up to what others expect of him – especially those close to Shigeo. It could be said that Assassination Classroom’s Nagisa Shiota was like this initially, too; they both are reluctant heroes who slowly grow into their roles over time while learning about themselves along the way.

The protagonist of Mob Psycho 100 is a shy, introverted boy named Shigeo Kageyama. However, he still manages to rise into leadership positions as the situation dictates, much like Nagisa. Also, some of the threats in the anime are at the same scale as Koro-Sensei.

Great Teacher Onizuka

great teacher onizuka anime like assassination classroom

Great Teacher Onizuka is a comedy anime that gets mileage out of a school life setting, and it’s considerably more grounded than Assassination Classroom. Yet, unlike the latter, there are no dangerous aliens or highly-trained assassins in this school anime. That being said, Great Teacher Onizuka never lacks in drama!

Rather than a dangerous monster, Eikichi Onizuka is an ex-gang leader who wants to pass on all the valuable life lessons he learned by becoming a school teacher. We follow his antics as he tries to teach and reach a class of students that view him as a less than average teacher. Getting the intended results no matter how underhanded or hilarious the methods may be.

Great Teacher Onizuka dives into the humor and emotion involved in Onizuka’s situation. By the end, it’s hard to not fall in love with the badass teacher.

Danganronpa The Animation

danganronpa the animation anime like assassination classroom

Danganronpa, the anime adaptation, started as a cult video game. It’s set in high school, where death lurks around every corner. As a result, Danganronpa features some of the best adaptation values from any gaming franchise to date; it even includes additional scenes for fans who’ve already played through the story before.

Danganronpa The Animation provides its viewers with a kill or be killed situation like Assassination Classroom, but is more laid back and serious in the way it implements this. Unlike Koro-sensei of Assassination Classroom, who cheers on his students from afar as they try to kill him, Monokuma takes care of all the students, an instructor for Hope’s Peak Academy, where the kids are forced into killing one another if they ever want their freedom again. Monokuma is just as fun of a mascot as Koro-Sensei, too.

gintama best anime like one punch man

Gintama is a comedy anime about an oddball group of warriors who take on strange jobs to save feudal Japan from the alien invasion. Gintama features goofy humor and love for anime parodies and touches upon serious subjects such as death and war. Assassination Classroom has similar qualities in that it too has both comedic moments and touching dramatic scenes involving mortality or warfare.

My Hero Academia

Both My Hero Academia and Assassination Classroom are set within a school, involving individuals with supernatural powers. However, neither of these series is shy about leaving the confines of their location either; one explores what it’s like to be in high school when you’re not superhuman while another navigates the treacherous world as an assassin school student.

Both anime series, My Hero Academia and Assassination Classroom, are focused on the school system’s structure. However, while both show a similar message of teamwork and redemption, they differ in how this is accomplished: In MHA, our protagonist faces deadly villains like All Might‘s old nemesis Stain; meanwhile, AC presents its students with challenges that divide them against themselves for instance by having their grades dependant on each other’s performance. In addition, one focuses more heavily narratively (My Hero Academia) while one provides entertainment through comedy (Assassination Classroom).

A more optimistic approach to Assassination Classroom: My Hero Academia is the anime for you.
