32 of The Best Anime Girl with Glasses

The Megalolita or Megane-girl is a popular Japanese subculture of female characters who are typically depicted as wearing glasses, having bob haircuts, and being intelligent. They also tend to have small breasts, but more importantly, they represent an approachable form of beauty that does not come with the stigma of social rejection for those who do not fit within traditional definitions. It’s no wonder then that she has become one among many other examples where women can be seen doing traditionally male dominated things like science, math and coding while still maintaining their feminine qualities through her innocence in contrast to modern-day girls.

If you’re looking for some ideas of the best girl in anime that wears glasses, well, I’ve got you covered. Let’s see how beautiful they are in their blurry existence.

1. Anri Sonohara (Durarara!!)

Anri is a cute meganekko on the outside, but don’t be fooled. She’s got intelligence and still cares for those close to her; she just wields swords when it comes down to fighting! The sword Saika that was given by Anri’s father allows Anri to control whoever she cuts with its special power of persuasion – though this also causes massive psychological damage to the user.

2. Mey-Rin (Black Butler)

The glasses are the key to her identity, a symbol of what she is and who she was trained to be. But if they’ve fallen off, you know that lurking beneath those innocent anime eyes lies another side: The sniper with an aim so precise it would make any competition nervous.

3. Yoko Littner (Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann)

Her soft tone towards the children is nice, but her badass side is ready at a moment’s notice. And switching from the bikini and sniper to the plain shirt and a pair of glasses just fit this side of her so well. Yoko admittedly doesn’t wear glasses most of the time unless you count those goggles she has.

4. Moeka Kiryuu (Steins;Gate)

Funny, this girl’s got a lot of narrative pressure on her. She can do whatever she wants because it doesn’t matter what happens to her at the end–we’ve seen that she’s good under any circumstance: as savior or damnation. Not only is there great writing behind the character, but we get to see both sides of each coin and how well they play out in either situation – top-notch stuff!

5. Shizuku (Hunter X Hunter 2011)

A little girl with a dark side, Shizuku is part of the Genei Ryodan or “Phantom Troupe”, which are professional thieves. She acts immaturely for her age and appears to be nothing more than an airheaded little girl; don’t take her at face value because she has powerful deductive skills and will kill you without remorse using her unusual magic vacuum cleaner as a murder weapon!

6. Mi-Ra Yu (God of Highschool)

Yu Mi-Ra is the 25th master of Moon Light Sword Style. This action girl was invited to participate in an international tournament called God Of High School, and through it, she received Original Greed’s power from Yu Il Jang himself! Due to this, Sang Man Duk recognized her as Jade Emperor’s successor.

7. Nina Einstein (Code Geass)

The resident meganekko on the student council of Ashford Academy: a prestigious boarding school in Britannian-occupied Japan. Though this teenage girl may appear shy and studious at first glance with her glasses, Nina is actually an engineering genius who harbors some deep resentment for those under British occupation that show their ugly side as well, such as through terror incidents. With these tendencies growing stronger by day thanks to said terrorist attacks, it’s not long before this girl finds herself working hard towards becoming part of the military sciences division in order to serve justice against all forces seeking harm from afar!

8. Mirai Kuriyama (Beyond the Boundary)

Beyond the Boundary features a protagonist who’s just as attracted to glasses girls as many of the anime viewers, and looking at Mirai Kuriyama, it isn’t hard to see why. The petite Mirai is cute but reserved, preferring to keep to herself and blog about her beloved bonsai trees. But her baggy cardigan and pair of glasses hide a stronger side: Miri hails from a secret spirit world warrior society dedicated against demonic youmu that use their own blood for weapons!

9. Kiyoko Shimizu (Haikyuu!!)

Kiyoko is often seen as a serious girl; however, she has been shown to be fun-loving and carefree around her teammates. She always manages to make jokes for others so they can feel better in their times of need.

10. Satellizer el Bridget (Freezing)

She was feared by most students due to her ruthless actions against them, but she wasn’t a typical bully. After an incident at East Genetics left the Pandora without any partners for years, and resulted in their nicknames “Untouchable Queen.” Not really one of the cute anime girls, but the badass anime women! She starts with really awkward personality traits but goes through character development like the other major characters.

11. Koyomi Mizuhara (Azumanga Daioh)

Koyomi Mizuhara is one of the most well-known meganekko. She was known as Meganekko until her name was revealed in the second volume of a manga, where she comes off as more serious than any other example found before. Koyomi prides herself on intelligence and maturity beyond that which can be expected from someone so young–she considers not just being close friends with those younger but also an adult who has outgrown them emotionally because life’s challenges have been mastered beforehand by this studious character.

12. Nodoka Manabe (K-On!)

Nodoka is a dear friend of the main character Yui Hirasawa and the mature, sensible core of the student council. She becomes student council president later on in her life with help from friends who are much more easily overwhelmed by tasks than she ever would be! A gifted student and skilled homemaker, Nodoka sometimes feel outmatched by how many goals she sets for herself but can always rely on those close to her when feeling mentally drained or lost while travelling.

13. Tamako Arai (Barakamon)

The Tamako plus Miwa combo was a joy to watch. Especially when they interact with Sei, who is older than most of the cast but still younger than them, it left plenty of room for tomfoolery, and their over-the-top reactions always lightened up the mood – especially her intense speech that’s infectious!

14. Kobayashi (Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid)

Kobayashi is the perfect protagonist for this show. No other character with glasses could ever accidentally get a maid who’s also a dragon, just because she got drunk in the mountains that one time. When not drunk, Kobayashi is very level-headed despite the dragons running around her house. And she’s kind-hearted, even though said dragons are usually awful at their jobs. As I said in the beginning, not anyone could have been Kobayashi. It truly takes a certain personality to work.

15. Miharu Mikuni (Kiss X Sis)

She has an obvious attraction towards Keita but is keeping her distance because of his sisters. She also doesn’t have much experience with boys, so she’s hesitant about him too! Even though they neither go after each other, it seems like the girls are going to be a problem for their relationship in the future.

16. Lilya Greyrat (Jobless Reincarnation)

Lelia is a tough woman that will take care of her family. She was once the guards-maid for Asura’s concubine palace and would pick up a sword to protect them should anything happen. The second wife of Paul, the mother of Aisha. She swore loyalty to Rudeus after he graced her with his benevolence and raised their daughter to become a personal caretaker for him.

17. Nemuri Kayama (My Hero Academia)

There’s no denying that the hero costume she wears is sexy. The way her whip cracks through the air and how it dances around in combat, you might think this beautiful woman was born for fighting! And with an ego like hers, who could be surprised? She’s got a lot of confidence going on there to match up against all those other villains out there.

Yumi is intelligent, able to gather information quickly with her photographic memory. She has the Senrigan or Thousand-Mile Eyes, which allows her to see over great distances and takes both work and life seriously. 19. Sumireko Sanshokuin (ORESUKI Are you the only one who loves me?)

Sumireko is the library girl every man hopes to meet. She navigates through life with a cunning wit and an arsenal of tricks at her disposal that she uses on everyone- friends or foes alike. Who would have thought that this goddess could be found in such places as libraries?

20. Ursula Callistis (Little Witch Academia)

Ursula has a superpower. She can make people smile, and she sees power as just one of her means to do that. But many eyes are on Ursula in times of need. Ursula stepped down from the idol scene and became a teacher, but her determination to cheer people up was stronger than ever before!

21. Homura Akemi (Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica)

Homura has an interesting personality. She is quiet because she was in the hospital for a long time and her friends are Madoka, who’s also been through tough times, and other girls with magical abilities. Homura might be antisocial, but she does want to protect those around her so they can live peacefully without witches bothering them or causing problems.

22. Kasumi Nomura (Asobi Asobase)

Nomura is a very mysterious woman with outbursts that can be either comical or horrifying. One moment she’s calm and level-headed; the next, she’s sadistic and cruel; it just depends on how much you try to push her buttons. When Hanako acted tough, Nomura gave him the hardest spanking he had since his 80‘s hair metal days! She also gets stabby if someone scares her.

23. Sheska (Fullmetal Alchemist)

Sheska was a former librarian who lost her job for reading instead of working. She rivals Yomiko in sheer bibliophilia, but the addiction to books makes it impossible for her to find work. Like many meganekko, Sheska is quite shy; however, she appears frustrated with repeated failures and not so much as what others think about them. All that’s needed are opportunities where they can use their talents: like having an uncanny ability to recall anything read, which could be useful when Edward and Alphonse search for the Philosopher’s Stone.

24. Miyuki Takara (Lucky☆Star)

Miyuki is an adorable little geek with love for reading. And everything else. She’s legitimately so kind and soft-spoken that you really can’t help but fall in love with her. The art style just makes this cute anime girl cuter than ever before—her big eyes peer out from the background while she dozes off easily when nothing important is happening to keep Miyuk busy!

25. Yuki Nagato (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya)

Kazumi Nagato, the shy and easily-flustered girl from a highly acclaimed light novel series involving aliens, has been given her own spinoff! In The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan, you’ll get to see how she feels about being an alien in disguise as one. Her glasses are perfect for any occasion.

Nagata Kazumi is known by many anime fans because she’s also very popular with manga readers outside Japan; when Haruhi Suzumia announced that there was going to be a new follow up book on life after high school called “The Disappearance Of Nagato Yuki Chan,” it had people lining up around blocks just so they could find out what happened next.

26. Tsubasa Hanekawa (Bakemonogatari)

It’s always a pleasure to watch Hanekawa, the class representative. Especially when she is as wholesome and supportive as ever, while her personality may be just what we need from someone in such an esteemed role, it becomes clear over time that there are many things going on beneath the surface with this glasses girl. The more you get to know Hanekawa, the more you see all of these layers underneath- one layer is how soft and fluffy she can become at times!

27. Saya Takagi (Highschool of the Dead)

Saya is extremely talented, and even though she’s a bit cold, we can’t help but admire her. She was the first to figure out how those “not zombies” tracked them down, which turned out to be really useful later on. You also have got to appreciate that protect Alice attitude of hers; one of the cutest anime girls!

28. Hange Zoë (Attack on Titan)

Hange is a girl and not wifey material. Sure, she might be interested in Erwin, but like any good anime fan knows that homewreckers are bad news! In the manga, it was never distinguished whether Hange was female or male; however, this changes drastically once you see her portrayed in the anime version. The question isn’t so much if Hange can make for a great girlfriend because anyone who has seen what goes on when she gets excited about science should know that answer to that already: HELL NO, SHE CANNOT BE ANYONE’S WAIFU!!! With all of these scientific discoveries coming at such rapid-fire rates, I think we’ve learned something very important here today, this adorkable glasses girl is married to her work, and she doesn’t care about anything outside work!

Shino Asada is a badass gamer girl who joins the cast of Sword Art Online in its second season, SAO II. She’s smart and an excellent shot to boot–her glasses don’t get in her way while she plays! Shino also has a kind heart which surfaces from time to time when we see into her traumatic past with mobbing as well as PTSD stemming from childhood bullying incidents.

30. Tashigi (One Piece)

Tashigi is a tough swordmaster that doesn’t give up even if she’s beaten to a pulp. She hates being looked down on more than anything, and her curiosity/obsession takes the form of katanas instead of knowledge or power like others girls with glasses we have seen before!

31. Saya Kisaragi (Blood-C)

When Saya is living her double life as a normal high school girl and badass fighter, she can usually be found wielding a katana. But when Tashigi isn’t out slaying blood-sucking demons, she’s more in line with the female character with glasses typical personality traits: weak, kind, and smart.

32. Maiko Oogure (Kill a Kill)

Maiko Takahashi is a student of Honnouji Academy who lives in abject poverty and terror. She’s shy, selfless, wears nerdy glasses – but proves almost supernaturally accident prone! Ryuko Oomori constantly needs to rescue her from the Student Council traps while Maiko drives an armored bus back for them both on ‘No Late Day’.
