Yui “Cherry” Sakura conveys himself easier through the haiku poetry he creates and puts on the Internet, regardless of the fact that no one pays any attention to them. He passes the summer working part-time at a care facility while preparing to relocate with his family in August.

Whereas Yuki “Smile” Hoshino is a popular video star on the Internet who wishes to make everybody smile. In order to conceal her buck teeth braces, she wears a temporary mask to cover her own smile.

Smile starts working as a part-time employee at the same place as him after a chance encounter with Cherry. Soon after, the two helps Fujiyama, a senile old man, in his search for a vinyl record that he owns. He longs to listen to it again before his memories fade completely, as he is unable to remember where it was last. Cherry and Smile only have the record sleeve and the words “yamazakura” as clues, so their quest begins in the thick summer heat.

This candy-colored summer movie is directed by Kyouhei Ishiguro and animation director Yukiko Watabe with the support of the anime production studio: Signal.MD (FATE/Grand Order Movie) and; Sublimation that deals mostly with original anime projects. Yukiko Aikei takes the front line in character design, the same character designer as Aikatsu Star, Sword Art Online, and most of the entries in this list. The cool Japanese haiku poems you can graffiti to learn Nihongo paired with those crisp, bright colors, sublime animation and artistic style, and an awesome soundtrack, what’s not to love about this anime film? Shouya Ishida, an elementary school student, thought to beat monotony in the harshest methods as a wild adolescent. Deaf girl Shouko Nishimiya transfers into his class, and Shouya and the others bully her. When her mother tells the school, he is singled out and punished for everything that has happened to Shouko. Now that Shouko has transferred out of the school, Shoya is at the mercy of his peers. He is heartlessly ridiculed throughout elementary and middle school while faculty turn a blind eye.

Shouya, now in his third year of high school, is still haunted by his youthful sins. He sets out on a quest for redemption, hoping to encounter Shouko again and make apologies for his sins in the past.

Both fortunes are intertwined when Hodaka attempts to save Hina from unscrupulous guys, and the two decide to flee together. As a result, Hodaka realizes Hina has an odd yet amazing power: she can summon the sun anytime she prays for it. Hodaka sees the possibility of this talent in light of Tokyo’s peculiar weather. He advises that Hina become a “sunshine girl,” someone who clears the sky for people when they are in need.

Things start to look up for them at first. However, it is well known that power always comes at a high cost.

His story starts when he discovers a handwritten book titled “Living with Dying.” He quickly recognizes it as Sakura Yamauchi’s popular, vivacious classmate Sakura Yamauchi’s hidden diary. She then tells him about her pancreatic ailment and how she knows her time is running out. Her deadly sickness is only known to her family; even her closest friends are unaware. Despite this revelation, he has no sympathy for her plight, but caught in the currents of Sakura’s continuous buoyancy, he eventually agrees to accompany her for the rest of her days.

As the two polar opposites engage, their bond grows stronger, intertwining via their decisions each day. Her seeming unpredictability and nonchalance upset the protagonist’s emotionless flow of existence, eventually opening his heart as he realizes and accepts the actual meaning of living.

This short anime movie has a very rustic art style and practically no dialogue. A silent film, if you will. But the strokes, the fluidity, and use of music and the soundtrack are very close to Words Bubble Like Soda Pop.

A girl and her bear doll reside on a street corner, together with a naughty mouse named Kanku-bouya, a sycamore tree, an antique street lamp, a moth, and posters depicting a bar girl a violinist, and a pianist. They all want to live, but the world may not allow them to.

Will the residents of the street corner be able to retain their peaceful existences in Aru Machi Kado no Monogatari, or will war and oppression bring them to their knees?
