Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest
Hajime was the weakest student in his class. They were transported to a fantasy world with only one mission – save it from destruction! He’s left to fight for himself all alone with only one niche transmutation skill. His wits allow him to make that single power even more powerful than anyone else can imagine – From Commonplace to World’s Strongest!
Ascendance of a Bookworm
The premise of Ascendance of a Bookworm is one that many people can relate to. Our protagonist, Sophie Hatter, has the unfortunate luck of being reincarnated in a fantasy world–without her favorite books! Lucky for her, she’s plunged into this new and strange place with plenty more opportunities than just reading: exploring different lands on adventures while creating friendships along the way. The show does not disappoint when it comes to comedy or cute moments but also manages some subtle depth about what makes us human.

Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious
This show is an over-the-top, absurd comedy anime that will leave you wanting more. The protagonist’s power is so ridiculous yet ridiculously cautious it might be hard to root for him! He knows how powerful he really is and doesn’t take any risks! It also features a hilarious Aqua vibe from the secondary character.
Drifters is one of the most interesting anime out there. It features Shimazu Toyohisa, a rearguard in the Japanese military circa 1600 and other warriors and historical figures from different timelines who serve as Drifters against an oppressive empire that oppresses elves and magical creatures.

Grimgar: Ashes and Illusions
A recent trend in the world of isekai shows has been overpowered characters. These protagonists are often individuals like Kirito or Ainz who can conquer any foe put before them, but this genre also includes a refreshing change-of-pace with novice adventurers that try their best to take on all sorts of challenges and overcome odds for success. The story moves at a slower pace than what fans may be used to, which provides more time to form emotional attachments with different characters as they grow together through adventures big and small. It’s an enjoyable experience worth living through!
How Not to Summon a Demon Lord
Takuma Sakamoto is just a loser in real life, but he’s an expert gamer! When two NPCs summon him into his favorite game Cross Reverie with the intention of making him their slave, Takuma turns the tables and makes them his slaves instead. Plagued with the social inability to talk to people, especially beautiful girls, Takuma takes on his game character’s persona: demon lord Diablo.
I’m Standing on a Million Lives
What makes this a different take on isekai is that our heroes are not dead or summoned to a fantasy world indefinitely. They are given a particular time, and a particular task and they are returned to regular life. After being transported to a strange and unknown world inhabited by mythological creatures, Yotsuya Yuusuke meets the Game Master who bestows him with the role of “Farmer.” He also gives Shindou Iu and Hakozaki Kusue roles as Magician and Warrior, respectively. The trio then accepts their quest from this mysterious man.
Isekai Quartet is a spin-off anime that focuses on the most popular isekai anime: Re:Zero, Saga of Tanya the Evil, Overlord, and KonoSuba. Chibi versions of the characters, Natsuki Subaru, Tanya, Ains, and Kazuma are transported to a mysterious school – creating an isekai within an isekai.
I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level
Aizawa Azusa, a corporate slave, finally died of exhaustion. She meets a goddess that grants her immortality, a house, and magic, and she is transported to another world to live her peaceful average life. She goes about tending her farm and killing about twenty-five slimes a day for about 300 years. She has unknowingly become the most powerful Witch, protected the nearby village and has been dubbed the Witch of the Highlands.
Kazuma Satou died and found himself in a strange place with two options: go to heaven or be reincarnated into the world of his favorite video game. Kazuma quickly chose the latter option because it was too good an opportunity for him to pass up. That’s when he realized that instead of fighting monsters, he had first learned how to work hard to cover the living expenses before being able to enjoy all its benefits! What follows is a hysterical version of what happens during this newcomer’s experience in such an unfamiliar environment surrounded by cute girls.

No Game No Life
No Game No Life is a story of two siblings who are great gamers but lack the social skills to accomplish anything meaningful in their current world. To repay his lovely savior for saving him, Subaru agrees to help find an insignia that she lost in the process – only they soon after got murdered. It is then that Subaru’s special dark magic power kicks in: Return by Death.
So I’m a Spider, So What?
This anime is a super fun take on the isekai theme. It’s about classmates that were killed and reborn in a parallel world. Some were born to rich or well-to-do families and are still cute girls and boys, while some were not so lucky. Kumoko, an otaku, was reincarnated into the form of a spider. With remarkable mental strength and knowledge of online games, Kumoko uses battle tactics that make up for her low stats. Thanks to her mastery of agility, spider thread, and poison fangs, she crawls her way to being the strongest.
Sword Art Online
The other parallel world in question is a virtual reality MMO game that quickly turns into a death trap when the creator makes it impossible to leave without beating the game. Worse, if you die in-game, your life ends as well! Sword Art Online follows Kirito and Asuna as they attempt to escape from this cruel fate, only to find themselves in another adventure; with more cute girls joining in, it’s borderline a harem anime.
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime
Satoru Mikami was just an average man who got stabbed on the street and reincarnated into another world as Rimuru Tempest, the slime. Luckily, he is not like any other slime you have ever seen before! Rimuru can absorb skills from his environment and enemies to help him in whatever situation that may arise. While this power could be used for harm, instead, it has been harnessed by our protagonist – with good intentions, of course – to build a community around himself while helping others out. As the series progress, we meet a diverse cast of characters and well-delivered character development.
The Devil is a Part-Timer!
The Devil Is a Part-Timer! is one of the unique anime series to date as it is one of those reverse isekai stories. Rather than following a human who has been transported into a fantasy realm, this story features Satan himself—trapped in the human realm without any powers after a terrible defeat in the hands of the Hero in the battle for Ente Isla. To survive, he starts working at an ordinary fast-food restaurant, and it’s just not what you would expect from such an iconic character archetype.
The Rising of the Shield Hero
The Rising of the Shield Hero, a popular Winter 2019 anime series, is one of those that have people on edge. It follows Naofumi Iwatani, who unexpectedly gets transported to Melromarc and has been given a mission: he must help defeat Waves of Catastrophe with three other legendary heroes. The only problem for him? He’s dubbed the “Shield Hero”, which makes it difficult for anyone in this world to trust or believe anything about himself as everyone looks down on his position from day 1. What better way than having someone pretend they’re willing- but betraying everything he trusts by destroying all credibility, forcing him to completely alienate himself.
The Saga of Tanya the Evil
Tanya von Degurechaff was a cynical Japanese salaryman who challenges Being X, only to find himself in another world. The newly-named Tanya is not like other cute girls. She becomes one of the most terrifying warlords this new universe has ever seen, but with magic on her side and an army at her beckoning call, she surely can’t be too terrible! This humorous twist makes for an interesting watch as we follow this little girl inspire terror from subordinates while figuring out how to secure a peaceful life strange new world.
The Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent
This is a slice of life-ish isekai anime that follows Sei, a corporate worker that is summoned to a fantasy world together with another female character. She is immediately dismissed by the Prince, and he chooses to declare the other girl as the Saint. Aiming to live a normal life, she starts working for a research facility where they discover that her magic and abilities are that of a saint. This anime delivers great character development and a nice slow pace.
And there you have it, anime fans, the best isekai anime in anime history (Or so we think.) Who knows if other good ones will come out in the future and change our minds? But for now, these are the ones that made the anime community want to leave reality behind and live a new life with someone who can fight off monsters with their bare hands.
