25 Best Beginner Anime on Netflix (Part 2)

Netflix is one of the leading streaming service today because they offer a wide range of quality content – from documentaries to movies and TV series. Now, it has also become a treasure trove of anime.

Last time we ran down the list of beginner anime on Netflix‘s anime library. Today, let’s look into the anime titles that are for the more advanced anime buffs.

Seven Deadly Sins

The Seven Deadly Sins Anime is an anime adaptation of the manga series by Nakaba Suzuki set during medieval times about seven deadly sins personified as characters who are knights and warriors fighting for their own reasons. A young woman named Elizabeth seeks out seven deadly sins in order to reclaim her homeland from the hands of evil knights. She must overcome many obstacles along the way, including the machinations of those who would see her fail.

Gurren Laggan

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, or Gurren Lagann for short, is a Japanese anime series that has received widespread critical acclaim since its release. The series was even awarded an Excellence Prize at the 2007 Japan Media Arts Festival! “

Simon and Kamina were born in a deep, underground village hidden from the fabled surface. One day while excavating the earth, Simon stumbled upon an ancient artifact of war that he named Lagann. With help from Yoko Littner, they fend off a surprise attack with their new weapon. In the aftermath of the battle, Simon and Kamina set off on a journey to explore the terrifying surface alongside Yoko. They fight against strong humanoid creatures called Beastmen in powerful robots known as Gunmen while uncovering clues about this vast new world with other survivors.

Violet Evergarden

An adaptation of Kana Akatsuki’s manga; from Kyoto Animation: Violet Evergarden is a slice of life fantasy drama anime with heavy themes, beautiful animation and fast-paced action.

The titular character is a young girl whose sole purpose was to decimate enemy lines in the war. Caught up in bloodshed, she became maimed and injured during its final leg, left with nothing but words from her loved one-but no understanding of their meaning. But when Violet recovers from wounds sustained on the battlefield, she starts anew working at CH Postal Services after a spat with her new guardian family. There, by pure chance, through witnessing an “Auto Memory Doll,” amanuenses who transcribe people’s thoughts and feelings into words. She decides to become one, and her journey to self-discovery starts.

Haganai

Haganai is a slice of life comedy with a lot of mature moments that, lowkey, deal with alienation, friendship and the struggles of teenage loneliness.

Kodaka Hasegawa is determined to make a positive impression, and maybe even some friends. However, he fails at the first hurdle when his blond hair leads people to label him as a delinquent. After one month of being alone again, Kodaka finds fellow loner Yozora Mikazuki talking with her imaginary friend in an empty classroom. Sharing stories about their lonely high school life, they are both encouraged by each other’s determination to overcome diffiies making any friends, so decide together that it would be best if all “nobodies” join forces! The Neighbor’s Club was created for those who don’t have many friendships or social connections.

Bleach

Bleach adapts the first 54 volumes of Tite Kubo’s manga series. Originally an action-adventure anime, it has over two hundred episodes and many different plots that span throughout all five seasons. Bleach is a great show for those who are looking to get into more complex storylines with plenty of twists and turns!

Ichigo Kurosaki is an ordinary high school student until one day when a Hollow, the most dangerous of all spirits that haunt and feed on human souls, attacked his house. It was then he met Rukia Kuchiki, who risked her life to protect Ichigo’s family from this vicious assailant. In order to save his family and friends, Ichigo agreed with Rukia’s proposal: she would transfer her powers into him so he could become Soul Reaper like herself. 

Little Witch Academia

Based on an anime movie, this anime series expands the original world and shows us a beautiful fantasy world and, as most fans agree, the wonders of youth.

In a time when wizardry wanes, Little Witch Academia follows the magical escapades of Akko and friends as they learn the meaning of being a witch. After being told, “A believing heart is your magic!” by her idol, Shiny Chariot, Akko’s life has been filled with ambition and hope. She aspires to be a witch, just like the famous one. So much so that she even enrols into Luna Nova Magical Academy despite having no magical background!

Steins;Gate

It’s about a phone microwave that can send messages back in time. The story is centred around one man, Okabe Rintarou. On his way to prevent the outbreak of an apocalyptic event known as World War 3 in the distant future, he not only struggles with time displacement but also must face other memories and truths that will be central for him as he challenges fate head-on!

Confusing? It is. But it all makes sense when you sit through it and understand alternate timelines and the borderline mentally unwell antics of the “Mad Scientist! So kewl!!!

Note

From the mad house: Madhouse Studios comes this psychological, mystery thriller anime that has adaptations in live-action movies, video games, TV drama, and, I kid you not, a musical.

When a bored shinigami drops his notebook in the human world, a high school student and prodigy Light Yagami finds it. Light uses this Note on a taking the life of spree taking out criminals. He decides to build a new society free of offense, and he is worshipped as a god.

Trigun

This 90s anime probably set up most of the classic anime tropes alongside Cowboy Bebop. Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson are sent by the Bernardelli Insurance Society to find Vash in order to evaluate insurance claims. They know that there’s a $60,000,000,0000 bounty on his head for turning cities into wastelands when he moves through them. It quickly becomes apparent as they chase him around across the desert wasteland that Vash is more than just an outlaw gunslinger with no regard for human life. 

KonoSuba

For those anime fans that are keen on isekai themes, this is absolutely hilarious. This depicts the daily struggle of a displaced individual with no redeeming quality or skills.

After dying a laughable on his way back from buying a game, high school student and otaku, Kazuma Satou finds himself sitting before the beautiful but obnoxious goddess named Aqua. She provides him with two options: go heaven or reincarnate in every gamer’s dream—a real video game like fantasy world! He chose to start a new life; Kazuma is quickly tasked with defeating thefallen angel King, who has been terrorizing villages since he was born. But before going off into battle, he can choose one item of any kind that will aid him in this quest; and so our future hero selects Aqua (not knowing how useless she would be).

Kengan Ashura

For those who are squeamish and strongly dislike aggression , this anime series is not for you. Centred around a fighting arena where business deals are done with fistfights, there would be a lot of blood and broken bones in this series. With a high warning: This is in no way a sports anime.

Ouma Tokita has been nicknamed “The Ashura”, and he’s trying to prove himself as the strongest fighter. Hideki Nogi of the Nogi Group employs Omao for his fighting skills and makes Kazuo Yamashita, an average middle-aged man who can’t fight at all, their manager. The duo is flung into fights facilitated by Kengan Association that have other fighters aiming for being right in line with them: be they strong or weak! But do they really stand any chance against these skilled fighters?

Re:Zero

Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- is a psychological drama that could get you frustrated, sad, and even cry your eyes out. In fact, it might make you want to throw away everything and run away from reality.

Subaru Natsuki was wrenched out of his ordinary life and dropped into a fantasy world. He is beaten near , but he is saved by a mysterious girl he knows as Satella. To thank her, he offers to help her find her stolen insignia. They happen to find the culprit, but they end up losing their lives. Subaru opens his eyes, standing where he was a few hours before meeting Satella. Subaru’s skill is that he has a save point; the catch is he has to lose one’s life to go back. He witnesses Satella’s and experiences his over and over until he gets it right.

The Promised Neverland

Arguably the saddest psychological fantasy thriller in the anime industry, The Promised Neverland boasts betrayal, , and mental breakdowns alongside great character development. It has monsters and survival, but one thing that set’s this apart from other monster anime is the fact that we witness pre-teen children go through it.

Surrounded by a forest and a gated entrance, the Grace Field House is inhabited by orphans happily living together as one big family. The children are required to take tests daily but otherwise have free reign of their time; they spend most of it playing outside or with each other in their comfortable home. However, all good times must come to an end, for every few months, another child leaves behind her mother Isabella and new friends at the orphanage – never seen again. Not to be adopted, no! This orphanage is nothing more than than a farm to feed the monsters outside the gates.

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure is, as the title suggests, a very bizarre and convoluted anime that captured the hearts of anime fans worldwide.

The story of JoJo is a long and complicated one, but it’s also entertaining as the nether region.

A powerful man named Dio attempts to take over the world by gaining access to an ancient stone mask that allows him immortality so he can rule forever! But there are heroes in this tale too: Joseph “Jojo” Jotsuya fights against Dio with his Stone Mask, which grants its wearer superpowers–and defeats his enemies after turning into another person entirely (called Stand). He then passes on these powers proudly down through generations for decades until Josuke Higashikata encounters yet ANOTHER villain who seeks unlimited power- just like dear old dad did. 

High School DxD

High School DxD is an anime with mature themes that has been praised as the best fan service anime ever made, and in a way that might be accurate. Seriously though, it’s really just another show about attractive teenage girls who fight monsters. For all of you haters out there, stay away from this one!

Issei Hyoudou is a high schooler with an average life and nothing but the occasional peeping session on girls to look forward to. That is until one beautiful girl asks him out – however, she turns out to be a fallen angel who brutally ends his life! But Issei gets his second chance at life when senior student Rias Gremory revives him as her servant in the ranks of their school’s research club. Slowly adjusting himself into this new world, he must train vigorously so that he may live; it will take more than just luck if our protagonist ever hopes become someone with many suitors!

Berserk 

This anime series is a telling of what happens after that heartbreaking first series with a new cast of characters. If you didn’t enjoy the brutality of the story in the first series, you probably wouldn’t understand this one, too.

Guts embarks on a journey to defy a gruesome fate, steeling his resolve and taking up the monstrous blade Dragonslayer. He vows to exact revenge on the one responsible for this tragic destiny: The man he once looked up to–his friend Griffith. Along with unlikely allies Puck (a small elf) and Isidro (a young thief), Guts hunts down what seems like impossible odds in order to save himself from ‘s door.

Asobi Asobase

This is an absolutely amazing anime that deserves watching!

In the middle of recess, Olivia is playing a game called “Look-the-Other Way” with Hanako Honda. Kasumi Nomura watches from afar and doesn’t want to play but eventually joins in on their fun when she sees her sister teasing her for losing games all the time. The three girls quickly became friends after they created the Pastime Club, where they are free to act silly every day during lunchtime. 

Naruto

Naruto, the best show ever made, was awarded many prestigious titles in its day. It has won the “Best Full-Length Animation Program Award” by UStv and is also IGN’s pick for number 38 on their Top 100 Animated Series list! This awesome shounen anime delivers great story arcs, action scenes and character development.

The Kyuubi, the Nine-Tailed Fox, had wreaked havoc on Konohagakure, and then Fourth Hokage sacrificed his life to seal it within Naruto. From that point onwards, he became an outcast because people would shun him for having such evil power. But all the taunts and alienation never discouraged our hero from dreaming of becoming the greatest Hokage.

Great Pretender

A Netflix original anime series, Great Pretender, presents a story of deceit and survival through superb animation styles.

The Great Pretender is a tale of high stakes and cunning schemes, telling the story of Makoto as he gets himself swept up in international fraud. With Laurent’s guidance, we follow his journey through backstabbing cops and scheming criminals alike until it becomes clear that this self-proclaimed expert has bitten off more than he can chew.

No Game no life

The world of No Game, No Life is a surreal comedy that follows Sora and Shiro, shut-in NEET siblings who are the online gamer duo behind the legendary username “Blank.” They view reality as just another crappy game. However, when they receive an email challenging them to play chess in real life with Tet (God of Games), their entire existence changes! The brother and sister end up being plunged into this otherworldly realm where they meet Tet for themselves – but it’s not all fun and games.

The Way of the House Husband

The most feared ruffian of his time is now a modest housewife, working hard to make sure the dishes are perfect. The legendary “Immortal Dragon” Tatsu disappeared for some time but has reappeared and without aggression !

He’s been spotted wearing an apron around town as he goes onto to become more skilled in homemaking – cooking delicious meals while maintaining order at home. He might be best known for being ruthless against rival gangs with skirmishes that were prolific and brutal; however, it seems like there was only one place where this Immoral Dragon could find peace: the domestic life.

Devilman Crybaby

Netflix’s Devilman Crybaby is a hit with anime and manga fans, featuring an all-star Japanese voice cast that includes Megumi Han, Ayumu Murase, and Kouki Uchiyama, directed by Masaaki Yuasa based on a manga by various mangakas like Hitoshi Iwaaki. A blend of dark themes and unique art style make this show stand out among Netflix original series.

Akira Fudou was always kind and shy. So when his childhood friend Ryou Asuka asks for help to uncover devils, Akira accepts without hesitation. However, what he sees there is not the type of person or place he imagined; it’s a nightmarish party where demons possess everyone turning their bodies into grotesque monsters as they wreak havoc! 

MobPsycho 100

Mob mentally unwell 100 is one of the funniest anime on Netflix, right next to One-Punch Man and The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. The protagonist, Mob aka Setsuo, wields a psychic power called esper powers which allow him to do things like inflict pain with his eyes or read people’s minds and thoughts by just looking at them – it really helps when he wants to make friends! But this isn’t your average comedy show; there are some dark themes covered too: from bullying and self-doubt all the way up to mob being possessed so that you get an eerie sense of what both sides feel.

Hinamatsuri

Hinamatsuri is another one of the funniest anime that found its way to Netflix that deals with some sort of weaponized magical girls.

Yoshifumi Nitta, a yakuza member and collector of precious vases, is rudely interrupted when he finds an odd capsule has fallen on his head. When he opens it, it reveals a little girl with a very stoic expression named Hina. Hina, a mysterious girl with immense powers and an affinity for salmon roe, finds herself in the care of Yoshifumi Nitta. The series follows the cast of characters through their daily life: a yakuza; a couple of weaponized magical girls from the future; a middle schooler that moonlights as a bartender; and the homeless community in Japan.

Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic

This fantasy anime is just one series in the Magi franchise, but arguably the best one.

Aladdin, a kind and young magician who’s spent life in isolation, is finally eager to explore the world. He leaves home with his mentor Ugo—a djinn that Aladdin can summon by playing on his flute. But soon, he meets Alibaba Saluja after causing the destruction of a local merchant’s supply cart; they become friends quickly because both have an adventurous heart which leads them into conquering dungeons nearby, aiming for different reasons: one wants money while the other seeks adventure! This launching point sets off their epic journey from there, where it decides the fate of the whole world itself!

Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid

The fun slice of life fantasy anime from Kyoto Animation follows Miss Kobayashi, a hardworking office lady who lives alone but cannot seem to keep up with the chores. When she rescues what turns out to be an adorable dragon girl named Tohru, her world is turned upside down, and there’s no turning back!

There is a lot of anime on Netflix, so the list has to be narrowed down. We’ve done our best to include some favorites and classics, but there may still be more that we missed; check out 25 Best Beginner Anime on Netflix.
